Everything I've seen indicates the 20,24,28 tb are CMR drives. Seagate doesn't offer the 28tb outside this enclosure as far as I'm aware. Its speculated that these are binned Exos drives, so they follow the same specs (7200rpm, HAMR CMR) but different firmware and less cache. They have the class 1 laser warning on the label which should confirm HAMR. The only high capacity drives that use SMR are the Exos 32tb and 36tb as of right now.
I have a Barracuda 24tb shucked from one of these in a NAS since February, no issues. It's in a storage pool with 2 other Exos 24tb and didn't degrade the performance/is operating at the same temp. I also have this 28tb still in its enclosure that I'm using to backup the NAS biweekly. It works fine but does run hot in that enclosure. Averages 53c vs the 24tb in the NAS running at 32c.. I'm using it as cold storage so I'm not too concerned, but if it were on all the time I'd probably put a fan on it.
