Quite honestly, CPU is not the problem, even M1 has plenty of power…IPadOS is the problem.
Does the "I"-Pad run a real OS yet, or is it just still a giant "I"-Phone?

How different is this from the latest gen? Is it just m2 vs m4 or is there a bigger material difference?

this is NOT an M4 ipad, don't waste your money. In fact this is a 2022 model.

Besides the OLED screen, what are the main differences between the two? What are some use cases where the M2 isn't sufficient?

Webcam placement and thickness of the device are other notable changes. The camera loses ultra wide lens and space grey color is not available on the m4 iPad Pro

The iPad market becomes segmented more than ever as some developers produce software that needs an M processor.

I recall last year trying to play a game that wouldn't work on my 1 year old iPad as it had the typical A processor. Wasn't even a demanding graphical game.

You call it segmented, I call it developers creating software that do things only the super powerful M-chips can do, which is good. For those of us with iPad Pro's, why should we need to run dumbed down apps? We need more advanced app to harness the performance and graphics of the M-Series iPads.

This is the issue with M series chips in an Ipad Air/Pro, they are way OP for basic software capabilities now. I have Airs with M1/M2 and once I connect to the magic keyboard or my monitor/keyboard/mouse it still cant do much. Apple is expected to start addressing this in IOS19 from rumors, but the apps have to come along for the ride. Simple example: MS Office on Ipad is no where near on par with MacOS but there is no reason it cannot be at parity.

Part of that is MS though -- it seems dumbing down apps and calling them "New" (New Outlook) then shoving them down our throats whether we want them or not (and hey, lets make the icon look just like Classic Outlook to fool people into using it) is the roadmap of MS. I suppose once we have New Word and New Excel, they will be just like iPad's Word and Excel.

I have the M4 13" 1TB with nano texture display, performance gains would not be very noticeable but the screen is beautiful. A few of these for the kids is tempting- then again these sharp discounts near WWDC mean we might see the M5 announced…

hard to justify this when Macbook M4 can be had for $1299 with better spec and can do more.

M4 iPad Pros have a noticeably thinner body and OLED screens, the M2s have mini-LED screens
