Merrell Moab 3 low at Sportsmans with more sizing for $53. Not WP which I prefer for hiking since cooler/better breathing. http://www.sportsmans.com/footwea.../p/1702672

Depends on what you need. If nothing else, you can change the insoles.

For me, the main feature is a roomy toebox. I have Hobbit feet - long and blunt, with a narrow heel. There is nothing worse than having your toes smashing into the front of the boot on a descent.

Now, show me the deal on size 12s!

Great deal on a great pair of hiking boots, I use these exact same ones, but in the waterproof version.

These are great hiking shoes but the durability is not what used to be.

Pretty true to size. Very roomy toe box as well.

The vibram soles will outlast the rest of the shoe, by far. Very first pair from over a decade ago still going strong. I don't expect that from more recent offerings.

"Broken in" feel right out of the box every time. I have about 6 pair of various Merrell's, so with rotation they will last me around a decade, always bought either at Costco or on extreme sales on Amazon. So for me, excellent value.

Are these shoes good? I heard Merrels Moabs get sold out pretty fast when on good deal. But this thread doesn't seem to gain that much attention?

I really like the Moab, mostly. Great for lite hiking, transitions very comfortably from the trail to the nature center and back out to the trail. A comfortable all day wear.

They don't really last like they used to.

My Moab 1 waterproof were wp for about 10 years.

M2 wp were wp for about 2 years.

Because the comfort is so good, for me at least, I spent the money on the m3 goretex last year.

Note that these are not the waterproof version, for those that are looking for that feature.

I bought these boots for a 7 day Boundary Water camp/canoe trip. These are excellent boots that dry quickly after trekking through the streams and lakes. You will get wet when canoing. Fantastic grip.
