Not every retailer offers free store pickup. Menard's and Sam's Club don't (unless you have a Plus membership).
The only reason I do it is to make sure the thing is actually available instead of driving there to find out they are sold out since I live so far away.

Its the retail business way of getting you to see more products and possibly buy something else.
Go to any grocery store in America (all the ones I've ever visited in any state) milk and eggs are always in the refrigerators in the very back of the store.
They aren't there by accident.
