Real or fake these bottles, including the newest version, have two serious issues

1. Button/hinge breaks after a while rendering the bottle useless

2. Straw detaches way to easy eliminating the sipping method of drinking

The one handed open was the gimmick that was poorly executed, also there are 2-3 small rubber gaskets you have to remove everytime you clean it

People have a cult following for these bottles and for really no reason

Not true, there is a link that takes you to fakes but this link took me directly to Owala as seller. But beware there is a link that takes you to a seller that spells it O/w-a/l/a (lol so shady)

I love my Owalas, way better than Stanleys, better function, better sipping. While I do agree it's not perfect, I love the push button and have had zero issues with then. And the straw does come out sometimes, but it's much higher quality straw than the cheaper ones from other water bottles that warp and get destroyed over time, these straws have stayed perfect for me and the family

We have a few Owala's in the family, and they are by far our favorite bottles. I don't mean to discount what you say, but definitely want to share my experience as well. We've had no issues with the hinge on any of our bottles. The straw really on detaches if it's filled with a LOT of ice and you're tightening/untightening the lid, and even then it's rare. There are gaskets, but that's true of any water-tight water bottle, they are both pretty easy to remove (one exceptionally so)

I have been wanting one, but not in black. Hopefully some other color goes on sale soon. I don't see myself paying regular price for it.

Im just going by personal experience, the experience of my friends, and what ive read on Reddit. Even the brand new bottle design they just released does not address the weak/failure points in the hinge or the multiple small pieces required to remove for full cleaning. I get why people like them but it's clearly a cheap chinese mug rebranded thats why you can find about 100 copies on AliExpress/DHGate even some claim they have a stronger hinge lol. But if its working for you thats awesome

I used to buy these years ago at Sam's in a 2 pack for around $30-$35 before they were popular. Those originals are still kicking after years of service and many drops without a single issue besides a little paint chipping from the bottom. Not sure who could possibly be having button or hinge problems. We pull the seal gasket every few washings using a fork and the sip gasket every time in seconds.
