if my lawn is already growing a bunch of crabgrass will this kill/control it? or is this more pre-emergent

I do not think it will kill existing crabgrass. Use a Scott's crab grass pre-emergent early next spring. Once crabgrass takes hold, my understanding is you usually have to spray it or pick it.

I'm not lawn expert but I believe if you put this down in early spring it acts a a pre-emergent and stops the crab grass from germinating. Once it's germinated this does nothing to kill it.

This is a pre-emergent to be used in early spring. Works really well. This is what I use.

What is even the active ingredient? It's usually in a box on the front bottom but nothing in the photos and I didn't see "active" in a quick scan...

This could easily help or kill any random lawn.
