Barracuda drive inside, not EXOS
Good deal, under $10 per TB. I was also able to use Discover offer for $20 back on GPay transaction over $200 with virtual number since BHPhotovideo allows Google pay transactions from chrome.
Come on WD…

This would work for PS5 only for PS4 games or storing PS5 games. You will not be able to run ps5 games off this hdd.

Actually, you want 3 backups in total, one cloud based.
As I said in what you are replying too.

Being a Seagate is a non-starter. Would never trust them with any data of significance.

goharddrive has their 20tb MDD (store brand with 5 year warranty) for $200 refurbished. You don't know what you're going to get there, but if you plan on building an array and running each drive through a full test cycle you get cheaper tb/$ and a longer warranty. The external 26tb however is perfect for a minipc home server or for your home laptop docking station. Just make sure you follow the 3-2-1 backup strategy. If you're planning to shuck, then I'd only go for this if you really need the storage density and plan to upgrade after 3 years.
Many of those white labels (like MDD) are drives that had issues and had to be (irreversibly) flashed with special Out-Of-Spec (OOS) firmware to make them function acceptably. These are the lowest binned drives. Anyone hesitant about a Barracuda shouldn't even consider one of these. There may be circumstances where they're worth considering, but people should be aware of what they're getting into.

I just bought one a few minutes ago. I don't need it. But it is slick deal compared to other hard drive deals.

Like others suggest, I have copies of my stuff on different media. If one goes bad, I got backups.

The 3-2-1 backup rule is a data protection strategy that involves creating three copies of your data, storing them on two different types of media, and keeping one copy offsite. This approach provides redundancy and helps safeguard against various data loss scenarios like hardware failure, accidental deletion, or natural disasters. 3 Copies: Maintain three copies of your data: the original and two backups. 2 Different Media: Store these copies on two different types of storage media, such as hard drives, SSDs, or cloud storage. This helps mitigate the risk of a single point of failure affecting all copies. 1 Copy Offsite: Keep one of the backup copies in a separate physical or cloud location, away from your primary storage. This ensures data availability even if your primary location is affected by a disaster or other incident.
What's the best open source/free (or slickdeals standard cheap) software to automatically maintain backups across all the different devices and media to provide maximum redundancy. For bonus points, also allows addition/removal of storage devices when faulty, upgrading, expanding etc.

No. No single storage is safe and it doesn't matter who makes it. You would use this to create a second copy of your data to keep that data safe or visa versa. Even then, you would need an offsite backup to really be safe.

I just went looking at some old external drives I have previously used. Looking possibly for some video that may be on one of them. Every single drive connected. I am not saying that drives dont fail, however my expiences on WD,, Seagate, Toshiba and some others has all been perfect.

But these are perfect for something like a Plex server.

Good to know. I'm surprised they offer 5yr warranties on drives with questionable longevity.
