AI Overview …. submitted by watchdog with bad breath.

While generally recognized as safe by regulatory bodies when used in food, tripotassium phosphate, like other phosphate additives, can pose health risks in excessive amounts or for individuals with specific conditions.
It's mainly a concern when consumed in large quantities or by those with kidney problems, heart conditions, or inflammatory bowel disease.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
FDA Approval:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) generally recognizes tripotassium phosphate (as well as disodium phosphate and monopotassium phosphate) as safe for use in food.
Potential Risks:
High levels of phosphates, including tripotassium phosphate, have been linked to:
Kidney disease: Excess phosphate can strain the kidneys and exacerbate existing kidney problems.
Cardiovascular issues: High phosphate levels can contribute to heart problems, potentially through blood vessel calcification.
Bone health: Excess phosphate may interfere with calcium absorption, potentially impacting bone density.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): Some evidence suggests a link between high phosphate levels and IBD.

For those with BJ memberships, they sell 40.7 ounce packages of Cheerios for $6.99. Currently they have a $1.50 off coupon, which makes the overall price a little lower per ounce than this deal. They offer that coupon pretty frequently.

I have none of the conditions in the first comment. I am and have been for years, completely addicted to Cheerios. I just came back from Costco where I bought three two-packs of 20.35 oz. boxes of Cheerios on sale for $4.99 each. They'll last a couple of months or so. :-)
