What is the "24" speed for ?

I tried asking the AI chatbots but am not getting a good answer as to why 8X for DVD and 52X for CD .

They say 24x is for CD not DVD but that means nothing in terms of actual read and write speed .

I just want to know if this DVD writer is on the faster side or slower side .

Are there faster writers and readers ?.... and does the actual disc media also need to support the specified "speed" ?

Specs say 8x for DVD burning. It's USB 2.0 so it'll max out at 480 Mbit/s (maximum theoretical data throughput 53 MByte/s), which seems to be slow for DVD burning.

480Mbit/s = 60MB/s = 3.6GB/min so burning of 1 single layer DVD will take couple minutes. Still think it's slow?
