For the same price as a Switch 2, it's a great deal. Only drawback with the ROG Ally is its battery life. I've had the Z1 Extreme Ally since close to its launch date in 2023, but as someone who likes to not have battery anxiety, I don't use it as much as I used to, and tend to prefer Android handhelds like my Odin 2 Portal or more recently my Switch 2. The Ally is one of the most powerful PC handhelds out there, so if you use Turbo mode you can get some CRAZY performance out of it. It's incredible in that regard. It's also comfortable, has great controls, supports VRR, 120hz, and for a non-OLED has great colors and surprisingly decent black levels. It's overall a much better screen than the Switch 2's. You can even throw on SteamOS or dualboot Windows and Bazzite if you'd prefer to not strictly use Windows (but the major benefits of Windows is native Game Pass support and its ability to play games that use anti-cheat). Really, the only thing that holds it back is its battery life, which is resolved with the more expensive Ally X.

Why not just do the 74Whr battery mod?

It's really easy to do, and almost double your battery life. I've done it and love it. Did a few other mods too. Hands down, this is a killer deal especially with the current newegg gift card deal going on.

I have thought about getting one of these for a while, but it is really hard for me who already owns a steam deck. Sure, ROG Ally is more powerful but most of the games I played on these devices are not 3A so it is likely no meaningful performance difference. I also don't play these games which require windows and anticheat stuff.

^ Windows does suck.
Replace it with Bazzite or SteamOS. Dual boot for Game Pass / non-steam.

Depends on what kind of experience you want. If you want a more refined experience. Go with ROG ally. It you want a jack of all trades master of none with a little rough at the edge. Then go with legion go.

I'm sure your "regular problems" today were trivial to someone 100 years ago. Why are we gatekeeping problems?
