My AA Amazon basics do alright - they've held up much better than other no-name brands. But they will self discharge. Enloops or Laddas for quality stuff, Amazon basics for the kids RC cars + whatnot. But I can't think of what whatnot-stuff would need so many AAAs.

I agree. I've bought quite a few Amazon Basics and Eneloop rechargeable AA and AAA batteries and the Amazon Basic ones fail at pretty high rate while the Eneloops are still going strong and taking/keeping a charge
