It's basically a rotozip. It has different collets for different bits. You can use it on tile, hardibacker, plywood, anything you want. Typically you'd use this to cut holes for outlets and fixtures and odd fitting pieces. you could also use it for things like coping trim molding corners and notching flooring around door frames. I do this kind of stuff all the time fixing and remodeling buildings and houses. There's all kinds of people around here, for me this is great. A lot of times you are drywalling rooms with no outlets/breakers off and this is handy.

for circles,cutting already installed stuff I typically use a jigsaw with a blade cut off at full stroke (angle grinder) the depth of the drywall or a bit less or a bit more than the drywall if i know there's studs or joists there otherwise you'll bounce (sometimes tough to tell depending on how crappy of a build you got and how thick the mud on the ceiling was put down)... just an alternative

Very presumptuous of you, just because your toolbox has a hammer, flat head screw driver and cheap pair of pliers doesn't mean the rest off us are limited in such diy projects

Nice deal. Is there any major benefit to buying this over using a dremel knock-off rotary tool from Harbor Freight? Or a specific drywall bit for a Dewalt power drill?

My DIY project is to install some in-wall/in-ceiling speakers and such. TYIA!

This is not equivalent to a "Dremel". While dremels and rotozips are both rotary tools, they have very different speeds and powers. A "Dremel" is used for craving and shaping, yes you can cut with it but with a small disc and make the cut in the same plane as the spinning axis. A "Rotozip" you basically drill into the drywall to make a starter hole, then move the bit along the cut line, and basically chewing out the cut. For this reason a rotozip like tool can create a lot of dust.

Cutting a circle on the ceiling standing right under can be like snowing gypsum on you. Other tools for similar applications create dust too (OMTs, angle grinders) to a lesser degree.

There is a $10 Dremel at harbor freight that is corded. If can barely cut a Q-tip.

You don't score and break drywall already mounted. You score and break new sheetrock prior to mounting.

This tool can also be used to cut holes in cement boards for shower valve cut outs, on wood paneling for light fixtures and outlet, on tiles for plumbing, and on drop ceiling panels for HVAC vent holes, recessed lights etc.

This does not have variable speed. Never owned a dremel tool but it seems variable speed would be much better for multiple applications.
