Solid pieces that require more rigidity are typ. made out of other particle boards, but rarely plywood per se. E.g. their famous MALM series has the 2.5" thick border being the MDF/Honeycomb sandwich and the 0.5" shelves are solid particle boards.
Cheap "Solid wood" furniture from most mail-order warehouse sources are typ. made in Thailand under far worse conditions and with far smaller consideration to the laborers involved. Quality, fit & finnish is often inferior to that of IKEA by a decent margin, and good luck with sourcing hardware if something is missing or defective with those. YMMV ofc, but I did not have good experience (and I have dealt with quite a few sets, staging model units and somehow assembling furniture for every friend and their moms).

Some people are rich enough and do feel responsible to reduce waste when the company they run is consuming more than 1% of the global lumber production for many years...
No Messiah syndrome or pseudo genius ceo lore required.
And getting them to do a refund has been often nearly impossible, with them insisting on you taking store credit that expires in 90 days or just having "technical errors" that result in them conveniently forgetting to credit the return (which you pay for). I finally told them they could do it or they could deal with a chargeback and they begrudgingly did it. Just the worst toy company out there, bar none.
