Not true. Ofcourse it helps to cut calories but it isn't required for weight loss. IF does help with reducing calories naturally even if you're not trying to.

I consume the same amount of calories everyday and have been losing weight using IF. One meal a day. Whatever I want to eat and including dessert. I lost about a pound a month eating whatever I want. But for 4 weeks, I cut 500-600 calories of alcohol a day and lost 10lbs that month. I count and log calories so I know what I am consuming. It's not just CICO. Hormones and insulin play a big role in metabolism.

I know several people that are no longer needing diabetes medication after starting IF and losing a lot of weight. Those folks did cut sugar and probably naturally consumed less calories even though they weren't trying to.

I found IF easy to follow as now can't stand eating breakfast or lunch. Makes me feel bloated. Early dinner only for me. No need to stop working to grab lunch or worry about making breakfast. More time for myself and save money on buying lunch. I leave work early because I don't take a break for lunch. I don't need the break. Prefer to just leave early.

Here's the secret: hunger lasts 10-15 mins. If you fight through it, it will go away. I found myself making a sandwich when I was too hungry after skipping lunch and breakfast but then I'd no longer be hungry by the time I finished making the sandwich. Ate it anyways. Then after this happened a few times I decided to wait and the hugger feeling went away as expected. I get hungry at 3pm everyday and by 3:20 its gone. I eat from 5-7pm. 22 hours fasting, 2 hours eating/snacking
This is a lot to digest.

It can help some people. It depends on how they currently consume. IF fails when people continue to eat the same amount of food, just in a smaller timeframe. It works for those who snack all day long but change their habits and snack less once they are locked into hours.

Ah, the 3 pm snack break. I noticed at the office I would want something around three even when I had breakfast and lunch was just a couple hours ago. Wasn't just me either judging by the run of the vending machines around that time. Used to think it was a crash after having a bunch of carbs at lunch but then it seemed to happen no matter what was eaten. Think there is something else to it.

Actually, if you read the book, he talks about how eating less calories than you expend has been shown to be too basic of a theory. But please, provide us some proof for your comment.

I like the idea of intermittent fasting for no reason other than that making food is one less thing that takes up time. Ironically, I love cooking, but I have to make food for my kids, and cooking for them is no fun 😆

Nope, and nope.

It's basically just a method to regulate insulin levels (I.e. reduce hyperinsulinemia). Calorie restriction and/or keto are supplements to this approach, but not required. As I recall, Dr Fung began using this method because his diabetic patients were resistant to carb restriction.

Actually that's completely wrong there's people that eat more calories eating one or two meals a day than they were before and losing weight they just start eating the right kinds of foods and fasting stimulates healing and longevity as an added bonus. Your body actually requires less food because it becomes more efficient in its use of nutrients when you fast, the first few days your hunger gets under control when you don't eat carbs in to excess.

Yes on the first part, but you don't need KETO to lose weight. Caloric deficit is 95% of the effect in my experience, losing plenty of weight eating plenty of carbs.

This implies you normally drink about 4 beers daily?

The reason KETO helps you lose weight is because it lets you eat more (so you aren't hungry) and feel satisfied for a longer period of time, which helps you stick to your diet day to day, week to week. It has the added benefit of having many super-foods within its umbrella that give your body a ton of what it actually requires to be healthy in the long term and not triggering the insulin dump that carbs do.

Eat the same amount of calories in carbohydrates versus KETO foods and your body will crave food harder and sooner, and even worse the insulin spike from the carb-heavy foods will cause more of that digested energy to be stored as fat or as water retention.....

KETO foods don't spike insulin in the same way, so more of what you eat is either used or excreted, not stored as fat.

This is why a Keto-focused diet pairs very well with Intermittent Fasting, when you DO eat you eat things that will make you feel fuller longer and at the same time NOT trigger the body's Insulin response to the same level as carbs or an over-abundance of protein will do.
