its a beast of a processor but with its power requirements, no available motherboards under $200 yet, and 6000cl30 still falling in price, it would wait on this. if you have to build now, the 5900x/5950x have fallen so far down down, easily ran on any decent $130 b550, and 32gb of 3600cl16 for dirt cheap, there is just too much bang for buck to be had there.

Not really. A decent aio or air cooler will be fine. Also, a small change in the bios cuts power consumption by 50ish watts and temps by 20c.

its a beast of a processor but with its power requirements, no available motherboards under $200 yet, and 6000cl30 still falling in price, it would wait on this. if you have to build now, the 5900x/5950x have fallen so far down down, easily ran on any decent $130 b550, and 32gb of 3600cl16 for dirt cheap, there is just too much bang for buck to be had there.

Where to find cheap 5950? I thought they all jacked up the price as soon as 7950 launched

The 7700x is a much better bang for your buck at $$340 with the code and zippay payment.

As long as you can wait 1.5-2 weeks for the much cheaper b650e motherboards to come out. Also, all of the DDR5-4000+ RAM is backordered on Newegg, thanks to all the demand from this Ryzen 7000 series, which only came out a few days ago.

Immediately, the costs savings for AM4 is the better value but I think for new builds it's a great offer no matter what CPU you get because if you get a 7600 or 7700 you can pair it with a motherboard to maximize savings as you'll need a new one anyways. Now I just gotta wait for the 4090 lol

The information is slowly coming out that these chips don't simply run hot, they're designed to auto-overclock up to their highest set temperature. We've never seen CPU's run at mid 4.x GHz and auto-clock to 5.x GHz on their own out of the box - they're crazy fast.
To "fix" the issue, we can
1) Slap the best cooler we can on them and watch them clock to the moon
2) lower the highest max temp we would like in the BIOS (95°C freaks some people out)
3) flat out disable this default ability and use the eco mode

Still easier than with Intel. Their Raptor Lake TDPs are quoted as high as 350W (which will actually be a lot more than double what this draws).

Reasonable. But it depends on usage. If it's just for gaming, the 5800X3D is better. If you're building for gaming, you may as well get the Ryzen 5 7000 for now and upgrade to a 9900X3D in two years.

Yes i have the x3d. I agree for gaming only but this is a small niche of computing.

Yep, depends on purpose. However, who actually uses more horsepower than a Ryzen 5 provides on a regular basis?

ha, it just came out and its already discounted under msrp
i play games that need the extra cache and the 5800x3d is priced over msrp or even not available where I live so i'm going to wait for the ryzen 7800x3d

I just built 7950x rig and I am using Deepcool Castle 360EX AIO and even with the high thermals on the processor it still runs under 62C when I'm gaming. Idles at 40C.
