That said, a 400watt 15in sub that hits to 18hz for less than $600 is a Slick Deal.
Youre likely going to get a bunch of suggestions for other brands that are in the 500-1000 dollar range as better, but for this price the Klipsch competes.

These subs are known for having amp failure issues. From what I remember, they supposedly revised the amp in the SPL-150 by changing a resistor, but there are still overheating issues.
I keep my SPL-150's on a TrickleStar switched power strip. It only supplies power to the subs when my receiver is powered on. That way the subs don't sit constantly in standby and produce heat.
As far as performance, you'll arguably won't find a better performing sub under $600 new, as long as it is working. I would never recommend them at their normal pricing between $1000-1400. If you're not pushing it, perhaps they'll survive better. If you're a bass head or really love pushing the limits of your home theater, I would suggest to look elsewhere... and that's coming from a lifelong Klipsch fan. If you have a couple hundred extra bucks, look into offerings from Rythmik, SVS, Hsu, etc.
EDIT: IIRC, This is the third time in the last 18 months that they've been down to this price.
I just got in on a deal for $800-something a few weeks back and am very happy with it. I did read about amp failures on lower model klipsch subs but my understanding is the newer spl-150 has a better build.
This thing sounds utterly amazing and rounded out my reference premiere setup I've been building over time. 8000f fronts, 504c center, 600m rears. I forget which upfiring atmos model I have but they aren't reference premiere (not sure if there even is an RP upfiring model).
This really brings the sound of the whole system to a new level. It's worth every penny at this price.
Edit to add: I've got this in a reasonable medium sized living room and this system is way more than loud and punchy enough at 50-60 percent volume. I cannot fathom wanting more bass than this.

Decided to give these a try since I could have matching subs. Literally an hour after I ordered someone posted another PSA sub I may be able to grab.
If so... If anyone in the Phoenix AZ area missed out on this deal and wants 2 SPL-150 subs let me know! 😁
