Dewalt should make this $399 msrp, then for sales mark it to $299 ... because even at $399, it's a much better option to jump up to their 735 planer when it's on sale at $500/+ .

I just don't see why a person wouldn't go for the 735... even if they don't have the money, save up longer.

Size and portability. I have the 735x and have a small shop. So every time I need to use it I need to pull it out and set it up. Forget the weight but I think it's pushing 90lbs. I do love it but the 734 would be fine for a garage and light to moderate use.

It's at this price fairly often. Plus if you are patient the 735 drops below 500 a couple times a year making this deal even worse.

Has the 735 dropped below $500 at any time recently (not the DOA versions on ebay lol).

June of last year is the last time I saw it below $500. Kicking myself cause I didn't need it at the time and couldn't justify the expense for something I didn't absolutely need. Now I've needed one the last few months but won't let myself overpay for it.

Well, the size and weight aren't too far off. The only positive of it all is that the 734 has the feed tables. It's bs that the 735 doesn't come with them standard... I mean, a 735x is usually on$50-$75 more when it's a big sale. But still. I dont use feed tables myself.

I have a really small half of a small garage (and I'm 6'7" 330lbs so it feels smaller) with a super short 7' ceiling lol.

I have the 735 setup in an all in one type bench... I use a lot of flip systems on my benches and work areas t9 makimize room.

I don't use a table saw, so I put the 735 where a 2 arm person might put a table saw. But on the center bench I have several tools setup in a 56x62 design. I have a 12" bandsaw (I'm waiting to upgrade it) a regular router table, and planer. ( I now have a ton of storage and additional space since i got rid of my drill press and jointer that were also built into it. (I ended up making my own portable drill press... (Linear motion rods and aluminum t-slot are everything to me!! Lol). And I made my own jointer as well.)

I incorporated into my Sliding miter on another bench against one wall with the disc/belt sander and grinder both working off the same motor. And at the end of that I have my pantorouter. My other wall is currently my nightmare. Lol. I'm working on it.

Having 1 functioning arm & leg I've spent 6 years building this small area to fit me and my ogrish half-body 🤣 🤣 🤣.

Now, I'm going to be pulling it all out soon. It has zero insulation. And my body can't do the 120f with 80%+ humidity anymore. I usually work a lot in my A/C mudroom, but i keep my hardwood in there so its a tight fit, and theres no dust collector, nor space for it so its usually hand tools & extractor. So this year, I'm hoping to get insulation on ceiling and walls, and put a mini AC in there. Even if I can get it to 100f I'll be happy! I'm too old for that heat!

Well... I just wrote a book. My bad. No worries if ya didn't read it lol

I did that for 2 years before I bought mine!!! Lmao. I'm the same way. I'd rather suffer and wait to get a better deal.

Was that $500 for the 735x (with feed tables and 3 spare blades)? Either way, I dont think we will see a 735 at $500, from a source like Lowes/HD again for some time. A planer isn't a tool I would want shipped to me.
