PNY has a higher chance of dying than Samsung or SanDisk. It has a shorter life span.
Sources? Serious question. Personally, I've had worse luck with SanDisk.
Better price per GB and rated speeds than the 400GB SanDisk deal. PNY is also a well known maker of memory products.

Getting one for my Steam Deck.

Posted this in another thread where this was brought up but Amazon is probably price matching B&H Photo. You'll have better luck of getting a non-fake item from B&H.

But this is sold by Amz isn't it?
Unless their inventory mixed up...
No matter where you buy memory cards, flash drives, etc, always test them with software like H2TESTW (freeware). It will tell you the true capacity, the read and write speeds and whether any of the blocks are bad. This way you can tell immediately if the item is a counterfeit or even partially gone bad

I have tried using H2TESTW on large sizes and I could not get it to complete, so slow. Anyone else had the same experience?

I just had a PNY 128gb stop working after 2 years. And I didn't even bend it in half, which seems to be a common problem these days.

I learned my lesson. I bought a cheap generic from Amazon

Sources: anyone who's ever owned multiple PNY products. In their defense, I've had good luck with their USB products over the last few years. I've had a couple PNY SSDs die early, but I've also had a couple Samsungs die early. I've also had a customer with a video card RMA horror story with a PNY. That being said, for this price, I'd still take the chance.

I had 3 dead pny micro SD out of 6. 2 simply won't work and the other one gets very hot. Zero issue with Samsung SD out of 14. The price is slick for sure.

I guess ymmv but I have a couple of PNY cards currently in use without issue. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I have 1 in my dashcam right now, which has been in use for at least 5 years now in Texas weather.

Sometimes, identifying fake flash cards are as simple as looking closely at the packaging. If you notice something off about the printed graphics or the text, you have a fake. I hope we can start using more ML/AI to identify these fakes with simple cameras. I think it would be a good use case of recent developments.

Ebay purchases have been the worst for me. I'm not trying to say that flash fraud exists elsewhere but if you want to know what fakes look like, it's usually there.

I would never buy another pny memory product ever again. I lost all of my data on one of their micro sd cards. Never had a problem with samsung or San disk. and no it was not a fake. Purchased from best buy in store.

If you don't mind, which specific model(s)? Also, were they DOA or died in use? I've got about six PNY micros and now I'm in fear of data loss. TIA.
