Thanks so much for the note about generic toners. I think every single laser printer thread on SD should have this info.
Two big differences are this model has single pass duplex scan as well as fax capability. I bought this model and love it, although, there are no generic toners currently available for this model. I figure the included toners should last me till generics become available.

OP, repped for finding and posting! I purchased less than two weeks ago for $349 and will be price adjusting.
Dang, replacement toner for this costs around 350 for the complete set.

Probably would last me a long time with what it comes with, but shit....something to think about.

Anyone know the difference between this model vs. the MF642CDW that's been on sale recently? It may have been the MF644CDW.

Yes, the Canon MF64X models with the same 3 year warranty were routinely selling for $160 - $220 (on sale).

A few comments: Is 600 x 600 scanning good enough quality? Is it duplex scanning? How do we score generic toners for us newbie?

Can someone explain to me why this machine can copy at 1200 x 1200 dpi but only scans at 600 x 600 dpi?

600x600 is plenty enough for everyday tasks. It can scan 2-sided in one pass. In order to find generic toner you search "canon 067 compatible toner" on Amazon or Google. Let me just warn you that nothing is really available as of yet.

Probably because they wanted to keep data transfer rate under control. When scanning, the printer doesn't care about network congestion.
