This was just listed day before yesterday at 37% off: https://slickdeals.net/f/17807265-prime-members-canon-imageclass-mf656cdw-wireless-color-laser-printer-280-free-shipping?sort=oldest&page=1#commentsHeader

Looks like that's expired and they knocked another 3% off. Still a Prime deal, might end at the end of today.

Just reposting a question I had from the other thread. Didn't get any answers there:

Can anyone speak to the scanning features, that's on of the main reasons I'm considering a printer this big and (usually) expensive, the double sided scanning.

1- One review on Amazon says that you can only do double sided scanning from a computer. That if you try double sided scanning from the little printer touch display, it doesn't work. True?

2- Can you save scans to network drives, specifically a NAS? If not, what are the options to save scans? thumb drive, email only?

3- What's the interface for scanning like. Specifically I'm asking about:
The ability to rename files (can you add names before the scan or only after the scan on the file itself
How hard is it to end one file and start another? Ie- Are there "tap to finish document and start another" or something like that, or will I be running back and forth between the printer and PC when scanning multiple files.

Anything else you feel is noteworthy to mention vis scanning.

I'm comparing this printer mostly against: MFC-L8900CDW (Refurbished, huge), MFC-3780CDW (Scanning is manually fed, pricey), MFC-L3770CDW (no longer available, probably my favorite option. I forget it if has sheet fed scanning. Might not).

Thanks!

My small office has one. We love it. Reliable, works great. Eats through toner but we print color only on this, and use our IR series for black and white.

Generic cartridges are $60. OEM cartridges are $111. You need 4 (Black/Cyan/Yellow/Magenta) for the full set (you normally don't need to replace the full set each time).

My Canon MF700 series uses 118 cartidges that are only $33 per cartridge, for comparison.

Yes same experience. Terrible if nongenuine. The costs are substantial for the genuine

A note for those who already have a color laser printer that you may be better off staying with your old reliable if it works well. Reviews from Amazon indicate a love hate (more of a hate) relationship with a 3 year average lifespan and some really unlucky ones having it break in 3 months or less. Most reviews state issues with toner usage as well as rollers jamming up the scanning. Some had to replace the toner after just 100 pages. For reference my printer has been going strong since 2017 and I haven't even had to replace one toner cartridge yet so yea... I'm thinking at this point that printer will outlive me.

Anyways while I would have loved to upgrade to this printer for the scanning alone, I'm not sure if there's anything that will outlive my current tank.

Note my printer is a SP C250DN Color Laser Printer which I got for only $70. I was one of the lucky ones it seems as reviews are lower for that printer than this one.

So yes it seems that for laser printers in general if you get one that works great stick with it until it breaks otherwise you'll see problems relatively quickly and you should try to stress test it early and often.
