Sooo, they are definitely a company that trades reviews for products (same with BeeLink, etc.) However, the products are definitely fine. I've owned three of them, and haven't really found any flaws. The components inside are basic (SSD, RAM), but they do the job.
I wouldn't say "definitely" better. The performance gain is maybe 10% but it uses 2.5x the amount of energy.

I have owned and used many Intel NUCs as well as mini PCs from larger Asian companies like Beelink and AceMagician with lots of Amazon/US sales, and tiny ones that have a single Amazon sku.

In my experience, Intel NUCs may be slightly better constructed, but the difference is usually very slight or non-existent. Nearly all worked well.

By far the biggest difference is after purchase technical support and bug fixes.

Intel and of the the other well known brands like Acer, Asus, HP, have large support sites and provide ongoing driver upgrades, bios fixes, and a reliable method of contacting the vendor for questions/warranty.

AceMagic, Minis-Forum, and Bee-Link are a tier down from that. All three have very active user forums on their websites where you can get technical info, driver downloads, and can make contact for warranty issues. However, these companies very seldom release Bios Updates and any driver updates will come from the parts manufacturer like Realtek or Intel, not the PC brand.
The AceMagic forum support is very good, like Bee-link, Minis-Forum.

3rd tier brands who sell very little in the U.S may or may not have any web support at all. They likely have no active forums and may be hard to find if you need a repair or questions answered.

My helpful hint: check the manufacturer's website and log on the user forum before making a purchase. You will find if there are frequent issues with the model you are considering, if customer questions are answered promptly, and if they provide image files so you can easily re-install the operating system. I think Acemagic is good in these areas.

I would also caution, the Beelink Ryzen models pack almost too much power in too small of a package. It's got a very loud and variable speed fan. I ended up returning mine because every little action resulted in the fan ramping audibly. It's a shame because some of the lower TDP beelinks like the N100 based models are wonderfully quiet and compact.
Wow, that sucks. I was looking forward to getting one of the mini PCs with either the 5800U or 5800H, but yeah, that would be incredibly annoying. Was leaning toward 5800U because it's only 15w, but it seems like that would be the more stressed of two (more fan lol).

Any chance you got a defective unit? Like maybe heatsink wasn't screwed down all the way, thermal paste wasn't applied properly, etc?

The H processors were designed for small/medium desktop PCs with better ventilation and larger fans.
The H cpus are definitely still a mobile design, they're just a higher TDP design meant for workstation/desktop-replacement/gaming-style laptops. The thermal solution being undersized or improperly designed can still be the case regardless, but they are still a mobile chip. You may be thinking of the G line of AM4 APUs which are a socketed design for desktop use.

I see Amazon has the GMKtec 5800U now with a $100 coupon that brings it to $297. [amazon.com]

Also 16GB/512GB NVME, but slightly different feature set. A single 2.5g ethernet, but WiFi 6E and BT 5.2 Looks like a nice alternative for some.

There is no noise problem with the AM06 with the U processors. The 15w U processors were designed to work fine in laptops, where there is a lot less space and ventilation than in a MiniPC. The H processors were designed for small/medium desktop PCs with better ventilation and larger fans. In a miniPC they have to use nosier higher RPM fans to keep them cool. In most cases they use 2 fans, and still end up throttling them so you do not really get the extra power in a small PC.

I got the earlier AM06 6250U (same 15W rating) and it is quite quiet except for brief moments like during boot or unusually high CPU usage. Even then it is just a soft woosh since there is just a single fan instead of two higher RPM fans.

Thanks for the replies. Look like I might just have to try one out and see if the fan situation works for me or not. I'm usually not doing stuff too CPU-intensive (mostly Word, Excel, pdf stuff, YouTube, browsing with a crap ton of tabs open, etc.). Sounds simple enough, but even that gets my current desktop CPU hustling at times (older i7, 16gb RAM).

The thermal design of that one looks a little skimpy even for a 15w TDP U-series chip (they can boost higher if the bios supports TDP adjustment), almost like it was reused from a Celeron or N-series mini... but it's still tempting.

I have a Minisforum HX80G (5800H + RX 6600M) that pulls dual-duty powering my arcade cabinet and 1080p gaming in my theater, and I've been looking for something similar sans GPU for my home office (instead of docking my Lenov i5-1235u laptop, which still has to have the screen open for proper airflow because of the vent placement). 8-core U or H and 2.5gb ethernet are my primary requirements A DP would be preferable but not a hard requirement, same for a full-size SD reader (which I haven't seen in any lower-priced mini-pc yet).

It's not that it won't work, but transcoding is not as efficient. If you don't have a Plex license then it doesn't matter much since hardware transcoding is a Premium feature.

BTW almost all mini PC deals posted here are bogus in some way. Generally the price is AT BEST 10% below the norm. The good deals get yanked by the mods thanks to thier dodgy policies that never seem to apply to SD Staff posts. Don't ask me how I know.

From what ive seen on mini pc forums is beelink is better than acemagician, it's stronger and cheaper

Also these quick benchmarks don't give you a picture of the long session performance. The 5800U has the same boost frequency but much lower base clock, long sessions will drop from the boost frequency and the 5800h will increase the lead. I believe true performance difference is bigger than just the 12% shown in the benchmark
They are basically the same chip. One just has a high power envelope.

What about one of these vs the dell optiplex? Or are they for different needs and functions?

These miniPCs make great emulation stations. I got a pretty beefy beelink miniPC the other month and been having a blast with it. This seems like a decent one.
