Metabo has been around a long time and gained their popularity with angle grinders. Anything previously branded Hitachi is now Metabo HPT.
I'm a serial home builder and I'm doing many projects all the time. Metabo is my entire kit. I have nearly every tool and doubles and triples of many, including this drill and impact. I think these are the middle of the road models for both drills and impacts, which are perfectly adequate. I use them almost daily. The thing about this brand is that there's a ton of them out there, and while not every individual tool will be the best in the industry, their stuff punches far, far above the price point you can get them for if you hunt for deals.

You will frequently see this brand going on sale for nearly half price of its competitors and some of their tools are the best I've ever used. For example, the high-end impact called a triple hammer. It's the fastest impact I've ever seen. For half the price of the yellow tools You can have some really good kit.

Ugly ass name. Should have stayed with Hitachi, known reliable Japanese company.

I'm new to tools and looking for a combo for doing DIY. How are these compared to Ryobi combo (comes with free extra 2.0 Ah HP battery)?

Have a similar set -- along with recent DeWalt and Hart drills, and the Metabos are noticeably better made, very solid feel, excellent power... I wouldn't hesitate to buy Metabo.

I have owned a pair of Hitachi drill/impacts for over a decade now. Had to replace the batteries once during that time but given how abusive I am to my tools it's honestly shocking they still work.

Oh and those were bought refurb from that tool refurb place that pops on here all the time.

These can be annoying due to when you put a lot of pressure to drill then the chucks loosen up and you have to stop and re-grip the bit. Other than that these are good drills…I have three

Agree. I am a pro finish contractor and love the Metabo tools. Do yourself a favor, tighten like always then when you stop the mechanical fastening, grab the chuck with your hand and turn hard left by hand. They won't listen up at all

The hard case version (same price for my locations) is better, which includes two 3ah batteries.

They should have added the battery as an instant offer instead of a rebate
I agree with instant 3.0 battery offer. The same as Motor Oil. I refuse to fill out rebate forms in order to receive. They are very time consuming . I filled out rebate on car tires one time and tires half worn out by the time this credit card rebate came in.. CARL

What's your zip. I checked Utah and Chicago, both show $250.

Hitachi megacorp sold their power tools division, which owned the German brand Metabo, to a global equity fund. But the name, Hitachi, was not part of the deal so the new owners renamed Hitachi Power Tools to Metabo HPT even though, other than being owned by the same conglomerate, Metabo HPT and Metabo have very little to do with each other.

Others (Ryobi, Craftsman, etc) are fine for the home user. I still have my 20 year old craftsman C3 19 volt, all working, although buying generic batteries from china are kind of hit or miss

The Metabo are nice tools. I have a contractor friend and those are his kit, and yes, they are much nicer to use. If my old craftsman would just stop working I would go Metabo, but the damn things just keep working

Original Metabo is German. This is Metabo HPT (formerly Hitachi Power Tools), a company owned by the same conglomerate but run independently from the German Metabo. Most of their stuff is from China or other Asian countries.
