I had bought the "Pro" version which has 5% hydrogen peroxide. Had to stop for a while since my gum started to whiten. I don't think it was the toothpaste alone as I was using another whitening product.

Think of it like baking soda on ceramic cup stains - both will remove the discoloration quickly.
No point overdoing it with tons of peroxide. Once a day or two is a good balance between getting results and preventing gum irritation.
Beyond what toothpastes can do, then you'd be looking at Crest Whitestrips kits, then dentist visit for even greater results.
Obviously, at some point none of this "whitening" will be good for the tooth and gum if overdone, so don't go crazy with whitening products...
Which were "invented" by toothpaste companies to expand sales during the late 80s/early 90s. Nothing more effective than walking up to someone with perfectly healthy, normal teeth, then saying something absurd like "Oh, I'm sorry! Your teeth are just so (normal) yellow!" to stick artificial doubt into the minds of crazy consumers who are now buying whitening, deodorizing, grooming, etc products they'd otherwise never need.
