Out of curiosity, did you consider the Cinema 30 at all and will you be adding Dirac to the mix?

_Very_ good deal for the x6800, especially new in box direct from Amazon. Lowest I've seen before this is ~2700 for open box

If you prefer Denon & need/want 13 channels this a good price for this.

If not, there are several others that are less expensive.

I honestly think they're responding to the RZ70/805 deals of late. DACs are very comparable!

People in the market for a receiver like this will generally know what they want and wouldn't be asking here. So I'm guessing that this is not the droid you're looking for. Of course, you could go off and do a lot of research and then decide that it is.

People who don't know/care much will be better off looking for an X3800H or below.

Not a fair comparison, those two can only process 11 channels, this does 13.
This also supports 4 independent sub-outs and independent preamp mode, those two do not.

I've got nothing else to compare the RZ70/805 to! I really think Onkyo/Pioneer are fine inhabiting the "value" and "entry-level premium space" and letting Denon/Marantz take the premium+ space.

The next closest competitor to the 6800 is its Marantz twin, the Cinema 30. I would not pay $1k difference for the privilege!

I have just scratched the surface of what I need in a receiver which isn't all that much IMO. I won't be adding height channels for the foreseeable future and it seems that this unit would be overkill for my needs. I do plan on utilizing 3 subwoofers, which is why this Denon caught my attention. I wasn't planning on adding Dirac.

Also thanks to Madpup, shaddai, supermanrob, and jochmaster for your input!

The 3800 is the cheapest Denon that will properly handle your 3 subs. It can be had on sale for well below $1k!

This is posted deal for the Denon 6800 not a RZ70/805.
You are correct, if you need 13 channels, not much out there to compete at this price.
Especially for what it offers.

Yes if you need 11 channels the RZ70/805 are at the top end price wise of possibilities.
Whether they are worth the cost is a whole other big topic.

The marantz 8015 is on sale with clipped coupon on Amazon from electronics expo which has full warranty. Cheaper and solid performer objective and subjectively

Don't know where you are in the process but if you haven't gotten the speakers you like, I would highly recommend concentrating on that 1st.

Build that 5.3 1st then worry about the receiver, would be my suggestion.

The quality of your speakers have much more influence on the quality of the sound you hear than any AVR.

If you don't have one you can just find an older model or used until you're finally ready to invest in one.

My 2 cents, good luck.
