Have one from a previous deal. The RGB is kind of obnoxious if you don't want it, but there's a button to turn it off completely. Performance is good and never had an SSD drop/disappear randomly like I've had with numerous other enclosures.

Thank you. This is good to know because there have been a lot of deals posted for SSDs and I have always hesitant without knowing this.
Yep, just depends on the size you want. One other thing is the physical size, on the listing of this it has three sizes it supports its the 3, 4 digit numbers in the description, Just make sure the ssd you get is that size, but these are the 3 most common sizes so highly likely they will be.

Shame the code doesn't work on the dock+SSD adapter that's on the same link. That'd be a killer deal.

Is anyone using this with MacStudio or Mini as a storage extension and can comment on Thunderbolt compatibility and performance? Thanks!

That code actually works on the hub and gives a $20.40 discount!

Does the RGB speed up faster when you have a faster ssd? Or give some kind of an indication of how soon it will be done? Lol
No. The colors flow regardless of what the SSD is actually doing. It's like an SSD lava lamp.

Running this on an M2 Pro Mac Mini. Using AJA System Test Lite @ 1GB, 10-bit YUV, I get 1002 MB/s Write and 952 MB/s Read on a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus.

I just purchased this a few days ago. I found that the included USB-C cable actually gives slower speeds than a 240W cable from MicroCenter

So, if 952 megabytes per second equals 7.616 gigabits per second, then the 20 gigabits per second marquee feature of this enclosure is dramatically underperforming by throttling the 970 Evo Plus rated at 3500 megabytes per second. It's supposed to allow 2500 megabytes per second.

Can anyone recommend an SSD that would go perfectly with this? I would be more inclined to purchase if I knew that.
Get a budget PCIe Gen 3 SSD, so long as it also has DRAM. This enclosure bottlenecks the speed anyway, so PCIe Gen 4 is excess.

Albeit, one-quarter the potential speed since it lacks 2x2 let alone Gen 2 at 5Gbps, severely bottlenecking the installed SSD. Bad idea.

Is there any benefits using this 20Gbps enclosure when your USB C port only supports 10Gbps ? Like more stable throughput maybe ?
Works fine with my USB-C 20Gbps ports. Also works fine at 20Gbps with my USB-C 40Gbps ports.

Curious... Why would you bother buying this and then an M.2 SSD versus just buying an External SSD that had USB-C?

If you don't need (or can't use) the full 20 Gbps speeds of this enclosure, I can recommend the smaller and completely tool-less 10 Gbps enclosure from Sabrent. Have had that one for a couple of years now and cloned many-a drive using it with no issues. The 20 Gbps one in this listing requires removal of 4 screws to add / swap out the SSD, the 10 Gbps one linked below just has a pushbutton that flips the enclosure open - super fast and easy. Also a good bit smaller, five bucks cheaper than this deal, and no annoying RGB.

no. only future proof but not worth it.
No future for this. It did not make the USB4 specs, so this is a dead end.
