Looks like the trilogy was broken into 2 movies? And the seller itself mentions it's not the best quality. I still almost pulled because I'm a LoTR nut... but i don't want to spend $9 for half and $25 for the other half of a sub-par remake

FWIW I still watch the Hobbit cartoon movie even after the live ones came out. Self-professed Tolkien nut as well. I've never seen the Return of the King cartoon.

I'm pretty sure The Hobbit was the best one. But I also didn't see the others until after Peter Jackson's.

I think I'd prefer a streaming version.

I doubt we'll ever see it for lack of demand.. but I would love to see a remastering of the source material into 4K/Blu-ray. Imagine being able to appreciate this stuff from youth on a 4K HDR TV

Shit, at that rate, I'd want to re-watch the original transformers or dinoriders 😆

Yes, they essentially combined The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers into this one movie.

This also wasn't a Rankin & Bass animation like The Hobbit and Return of the King. It's some weird half animation and half animated live action combination with a totally different much darker style than the R&B movies. I never liked it as a kid, but I appreciate it a little more as an adult.

Is this the one where the bard sings:
"Frodo of the nine fingers
and the ring of doom!
Why does he have nine fingers?
Where is the ring of doom?"

And the orcs:
"Where there's a whip, there's a way!
We don't want to go to war today..."

So I saw this movie as a young teen prior to reading the books and it hooked me on epic fantasies. For years afterwards I tried reading every damn thing that came on the market in the genre and came away disappointed nearly every time. I can count the exceptions on one hand: Jack Vance, George R.R. Martin, Mervyn Peake, Robert Jordan, and Stephen R. Donaldson.

No that would be the Rankin Bass Return of the King
