Protein bars are a sheepish, poor solution for not eating entire bag of corn chips.

Instead learn about diet macros, that is the ratio of fat, protein and carbs (Google) that you intake daily, say 1500. And make sure you have nutrition, usually handful of vegetables. If you do this for a couple weeks you'll start to feel tired not think you're starving but you aren'. Fault Eating the correct food in the correct proportions and correct calorie count iis the quickest real diet there is. That feeling you have is not starvation it's the feeling of fat burning and becoming energy. It's essential to stop thinking of that feeling as starving. It de facto is not. It's a lag feeling because you're body is laboring to release more fat into energy. Eating sugar or carbs at this point would be fighting your success. It is not the feeling of starvation that's the feeling of burning fat even. if you're obese you'll go through cycles where you feel this because you cannot not burn any fat. If you take on a normal diet which is going to be lower daily calorie intake than what you've been doing you were going to get the tasteOf this fat burning feeling most people say oh I'm starving no you're not starving embrace it because that's how health test and then it goes away. In a year you can drift away from decades of fat problems. in three years you can drift into a GOAT. Your acquire a kind of health that's so rare that it will turn heads. You don't turn heads your health does. it's not hard to do. this so it's so easy to do because no one does it. It's like a sprint race with 10,000 contestants and the sprint is only 10 feet long. The starting gun is shot. No one moves you look to the left and the right then you stand up and walk across the finish line. You have it all. as a secondary, there's a half a stadium of women turning their heads towards you. This is what happens if you get your daily macros right, daily carb and and your nutrition right. and then ignore all the feelings you have an the voices in your head because it's all nonsense. a man can go about 40 days without eating there's no way you're gonna starve in a perfect optimized diet.

You're preaching to the choir, bud. 48yo, 167#, 30" waist, 14.5% BF. All natural. I do admit to using protein bars to supplement my protein intake, I just try to stay away from excess sugar.

LOL... okay. Who is talking about going a month without food or turning heads? This is a snack bar with added protein.

Eat real food, mostly plants, and not too much of anything. That is the secret...which isn't a secret. There is no magic ratio / proportions, nothing to avoid except in excess (perhaps pure pure junk). And random web searches are the last place one should go for advice unless 99% of the information you are seeking is from different schools of thought (conflicting) or outright wrong because it comes from nonsense like above.

And who are you preaching to that only consumes / uses 1500 calories a day? If you are active your intake / expenditure should be far higher.

BTW if you are "counting calories" or sugar you have already lost the battle.* Your intake vs expenditure will never balance, your goal should be to maintain a certain BF range which will change over time due to age, changes in activity which vary from day to day, and so on. The 20 year old you, the 40 y.o., and the 80 old will have very different food requirements and ratio of fat to muscle. Which will directly alter protein requirements and 'sugar.' Not to mention every other human that is different from you.

IMO if most (not all) average activity people, perhaps not your average American, eat mostly lean meats and heavy on fruits and vegetables they should have trouble MAINTAINING weight, needing to supplement their calories not to loose weight. That is of course assuming you aren't getting large portions of calories from sodas, sugared coffee, sauces, dressings, or frying everything in sight. Somehow people can turn a healthy 300 calorie chicken topped salad into a meal topping 1200 calories after their fancy 'coffee' and half gallon of dressing on top of the chopped up chicken tenders on a slice of lettuce.

FWIW and because someone will ask: 40ish, 146 lbs 31" waist, 5'9". Very fit / slender build.

*Not talking about those with special dietary requirements.
