These use the Realtek RTL8156/RTL8156B chipset, which is pretty well supported.

Nice deal, would this be good for an X1 Carbon? Fully featured docks are too big (and useless for that laptop anyway)

(price seems the norm tho).

I bought a generic version of one of these for a NAS box and it drops off the network after 2-3 weeks of use. I have no idea if the chipsets are kinda universal but thought I'd share.

If it were a USB Type A I would get it for my TV.
It turns out that even high end TVs still use 10/100 ethernet???
*Cheap bastards.

Chipset matters, the more recent ones have bug fixes, even the generics, was covered in another thread

Also probably best to use a powered hub, these things seem power hungry, very warm

It's so weird how buggy the 2.5gbps chips have all been, at least at the consumer level. Even PCIe chips have been buggy, with Intel probably even buggier than Realtek, turning the classic "use Intel instead of Realtek" advice on its head.

Will this work if you plug it into your TV? I thought you would need a driver.

This will not work on a TV because.....
TVs do not have USB Type C inputs.
Not even high-end elite models.

You might be able to use a USB A to USB C Adapter. I would likely get a cable adapter version with 3.2 support. A second option would be just to buy a USB-A Model.(ugreen makes one) Thirdly I would consider getting a 1Gbps model. It would depend on which uses less power and is most reliable.

Would this work well to transfer many small or large files to/from a phone to PC? I tend to wipe my device every so often and it would help with backing up and restoring.

I am not sure why you would do that versus a high speed usb-c cable. Distance? Lack of ports?
