So you have to compare the features you actually need but basically the X series is slightly higher but the 1700 gen is also slightly older. I'd go with the slightly higher room correction (Audyssey MultEQ XT vs Audyssey MultEQ), all else being equal and assuming you don't need some feature on the newer unit.
Also the X has a 3 year warranty instead of a 2 with the S series and with Costco you basically have a lifetime warranty anyway on receivers so that's how I would go.
The 770h, like the 760h before it, is more of an entry level unit whereas the x1700h is more like the lower side of mid-grade if that makes sense. Very close though as you can tell from the compare. If it was the 970h unit with more power then it would be a more difficult choice but I would still default towards the one with the better room correction as power differences are almost imperceptible in practice but RC is not.
Plus that vendor has mixed reviews.
Furthermore some legacy analog connections like on the 1700 could come in handy if you have any older devices. YMMV.

And trust me its impressive and powering my huge 7.2.2 setup ..my speakers are massive but i don't experience any distortion..for abt 99% people 770H will blow our mind..a recent YouTube review video 770H shows that person is using it with his SVS Ultra high end speakers

I had already looked at the link you sent yesterday. The differences are like you say. Costco's great return policy, possibly better built amplifier components, and warranty. I am going with the 770h as my first piece of Denon equipment. If it doesn't last as long as my last Technics receiver (30 years lol) I will just get another brand. This price is entry level so I'm not really too concerned with one lasting years longer.

Good luck! Unfortunately none of these are going to last 30 years since they are more like computers than old school analog amplifiers. Just keep it well vented and you should be fine.
