You just get a replacement.
The good news is that it is fairly easy to register the tool and battery on their website. Then on the same website you can request a repair/replace battery.
I just did that 10 minutes ago and got an email confirming the replacement battery (email was in spam folder).
Assuming all works out, I am happy to have the tool and a replacement new battery.

It takes less than 2 minutes to fix the battery issue if you have working Ryobi battery.
I got two wires, connect for 1 min or less + to + and - to - with both working and not working batteries, place the battery on charger and you are good to go.
There is a video of same but it very simple.

This is true, but then you have an almost 3 year old battery. I would rather go through the hassle of mailing the dead battery and receive a new battery as a replacement. To each their own.
In case you are wondering, I did check the voltage of the dead battery and it was 1.5V and would not charge.

I "replaced" two batteries under warranty. Ryobi just sent me the new battery w/o taking the old ones back.
I don't know if thats the standard process.
Edit: battery is dead on arrival.
