I was curious why they called it "spread" instead of peanut butter.
I did a quick search and our old friend AI sez:
Products that don't meet the peanut butter standards must be labeled as peanut butter spread. This includes products that contain less than 90% peanuts, or use a stabilizer other than hydrogenated vegetable oil. For example, Jif Natural Peanut Butter Spread is labeled as a spread because it uses palm oil as a stabilizer.
I'll pass.
If you want real natural peanut butter but your main concern is oil separation, here's a tip: Stir it once really good and put it in the fridge. Refrigeration keeps the oil from separating from the peanuts but it doesn't get rock hard like other peanut butters when refrigerated. It's spreadable straight from the fridge.

As I understand it they have to add oil of some type to make it no-stir (the all-peanut varieties are superior IMO but I get that a lot of people aren't into stirring or want their peanut butter sweetened). Regardless, < 90% peanut content in peanut butter seems like a fair thing to call out.

Not sure I'd care about hydrogenated veggie oil vs palm oil though, one has trans fats and the other has high saturated fat.

This is all natural. It is referred to as spread because it is less than 90% peanuts. Palm oil is a natural substance used in many products. This big issue with palm oil is that its use has increased and it is causing deforestation.

"Natural" doesn't always mean something is good for you.

CoPilot:
Yes, hydrogenated oils can contain trans fats. Specifically, partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fats, which are created during the hydrogenation process. These trans fats have been linked to various health issues, including heart disease2.

However, fully hydrogenated oils contain virtually no trans fats. Instead, they contain saturated fats2.

If you look at the label, it says 0% trans fat.

Partially hydrogenated oils have been banned by the FDA in food for years, now.

The day has arrived. A $2 jar of peanut butter makes front page.

Yeah I never understood peoples' issues with stirring. When the jar is brand new it's somewhat a pain (to not make a mess) but after you use some, it's easy to give it a quick stir. IMHO it's an easy and worthwhile tradeoff to not have to involve a bunch of ingredients just to stabilize the suspension. Literally just pureed peanuts (typically lots of sugar in other stuff you're pairing with the PB so why even add more sugar).

I'm more disgruntled about the fact that they are really trying to advertise that it has honey but honey is the last and least ingredient and less than 2%, could be a drop of honey. Seems intentionally misleading to me. It's really just sugar peanut spread.

I think you are mixing the popcorn with the peanut butter.

Correct. It has nasty palm oil in it. I'm sick of these companies trying to fraud.
