Not sure if this is a great deal (low price to begin with so low margins to discount), but I like the flexibility to be able to wrap it around a dumbbell and not just put plates on it, so I'm in for 1.

Dad made me one of these as a kid 30+ years ago with a wooden handle (think an old curtain rod) with a hole drilled in the middle and rope tied to a weight. Used for pitching strength.

Margins on this must be insane. Anyone mechanically inclined can reproduce this for under a dollar

I remember seeing people doing this with a stick and a water bottle tied to a rope. Lol why pay 12 bucks for it,

edit: for anyone wanting to diy this here is a great video by athleanx using weight, elastic band and barbell https://m.youtube.com/shorts/STxeKLs_ieE

it's fixed therefore isolating the exercise to your forearm and arguably a better workout

If you're using this for forearm mass and have access to a gym.. . You're making a mistake. Properly training your back and biceps "pull" will naturally grow your forearms.

Now, if you are looking for pure forearm strength, then perhaps.

Also stuff like this can contribute to aggravating carpal tunnel, etc

Pfft, I can make this with a paper towel roll, a band-aid off the locker room floor and an old shoelace from the lost and found.

Looking at the reviews with photos… 18 are Vine free product reviews and 2 are non vine. Guess which reviews unanimously give it 5 stars and which give it 1 star? I'm actually surprised it can get any low reviews for how simple a product it is but complaints of sharp metal and damaged product.

Stick and rope with a long bolt at the end to thread through plate hasn't failed me in decades. Plus lighter dumbbell wrist curls with back of forearm horizontal against a bench is great if looking for target forearm if not engaged enough during bicep lifts.

Probably the same reason people pay for food to be made in a restaurant. They didn't feel like doing work for a (generally) lesser result.

I wonder how many "sticks and a water bottle tied to a rope" do you have in your gym equipment. How much is that random stick rated to hold? Who pays for the doctor bill after you drop a dumbell on your foot when that scrap piece of broomstick fails?

BTW, that's a pretty big stick and "bottle" that is rated to up to 100 lbs. A gallon of water weighs 8-ish pounds....that's 12 GALLONS of water 'tied to a stick.' Man, if a better system only existed for less than the cost of a single meal at a restaurant

I'm all about DIY equipment, I've made my own kettlebells before (when they were $3/lb) and still use retired climbing gear to strap plates around my waist. My open-hand grip trainer is a PVC pipe that slides over an Oly bar.

This seems worth it, but as others have said, only if forearms are truly your weak point. Compared to just doing more pullups or deadlifts or carries, this seems like it won't destroy my hand skin any worse than it is...that's a win. OTOH, grip is supposed to be your weak point, that's why wrist wraps are so common.

I'm probably about to learn that front delts are my new weak point

You are absolutely right that compound pull exercises often train forearms.

You are absolutely wrong to think isolated work doesn't improve your size/strength/gains beyond the compound work.

And so much of the pull work is limited by grip strength, so anyone (literally anyone) looking to pull more weight, do more pull-ups, etc. would benefit from adding some isolated forearm work to their compound work.

Please don't discourage people from maximizing their potential through compound PLUS isolation work.
