Also, last time there was a Vitacost deal for this protein in chocolate there were complaints of cancelled orders. Registering for an account instead of checking out as guest might make this less likely, but I'm not sure.

Don't support this shady company. Just look how their last deal ended.

There was a similar deal for the chocolate flavor that Vitacost had during an overstock sale. Unfortunately a few people had their orders cancelled without being notified.

I think what happened was a bunch of new users all bought the same item and it triggered some sort of fraud protection. Was probably an unusual amount of traffic that Vitacost wasn't used to.

Vitacost has been around forever though, and if this seems like a good deal to you it's probably worth a shot. I'd register for an account instead of checking out as a guest though, that might make any issues less likely.

They cancelled my order when I tried ordering this 2 weeks ago, then they started spamming my email address. You've been warned.

Confirmed. They cancelled my order for no reason last time and started spamming. Vitacost and Myprotein are both spammers. They use this method to collect personal data and spam people. This needs to be reported to consumer protection.

Edit: spelling

Vitacost charging taxes for states that should be tax free is dishonest, a scam. Their website could easily be programmed to remedy these false up-charges. They know not everyone will pursue tax refund, and will discourage others trying.
MyProtein is THE WORST at doing this same scam. Although they have posted where taxes are not charged, AND have TAX REFUND form for illegal taxes they STILL CHARGE, you can request tax refund using form or contacting customer service directly for months and NEVER receive refund...but plenty of excuses and promises to remedy. One time they even offered refund only thru discount on next order ! Had to go thru my credit card issuer to finally get tax charge reversed.
All these dodges in addition to unreasonably high prices and continuous increases, with games they play with discount offers.

I'm not sure what's up with companies trying to charge tax on protein when they shouldn't. I've had this issue with multiple websites.

I won't buy certain protein off of iHerb anymore because they refused to refund me after I pointed it out and claimed because the protein had "Nutrition Facts" instead of "Supplement Facts" it was classified as a sports drink or some nonsense, haha.

Vitacost is strange because sometimes it's only certain flavors of the exact same protein they charge tax on. It's much less common on their site though and they've never refused to refund.

Transparent Labs also used to charge me tax and after a few emails to them they finally looked into it. Turns out a 3rd party actually collects all the taxes for them and they had to deal with them to stop it.

I would think if there's any scam going on it has to do with these 3rd parties that handle the sales tax for different sites. Who knows if it's intentional or what.

I had a really frustrating experience with this company. They canceled my order without notifying me, which was very disappointing since I was looking forward to receiving it. I had to reach out to them to find out what happened, and they explained that the system automatically canceled the order and that they had sent me an email, which they actually didn't. They asked me to place the order again, so I did, but I ended up in the same situation. I spent almost two hours talking to their customer service team, having to call 3 to 4 times. I would definitely advise staying away from this company.

would you happen to remember where Myprotein posted the tax exempt states and the tax refund form?

I'm not sure about the tax refund form, but you can find the list of non-tax-exempt states here [myprotein.com]
Look for the question: How much sales tax will be added to my order total?

My state is not listed, yet these scoundrels still charged me tax. Because of this experience, I'm done with them for good, regardless of how good the deals may be.
