3.75 / 5 is the WEIGHT of the game, not the rating. Just to make sure no one's confused there.

Review score aggregate is 7.8 / 10, which is pretty good, but only 127 ratings, so not really statistically significant in any way.
30 years ago when Catan was released I was obsessed with it, then more and more "Eurogames" like Carcassonne, 7 Wonders, Ticket to Ride, Splendor, Azul, and so many more.

SO MANY MORE. Now my board game backlog looks like my Steam backlog, and I've got two Gloomhaven expansions and a Clank Legacy game I want to play but can't find time for.

Games have to be pretty special to find a slot, nowadays! With a 3.75 of 5 on BGG not sure I'll jump on this when I've already got two versions of Race for the Galaxy and Space Base.

Still, great deal on this particular game and repped.👍🏻

This looks like a boardgame version of Maser of Orion II. If i like Catan Starfarers (newer version), would this be fun as well?

If 127 people lined up outside your home to tell you how much they liked this game, you'd feel differently.

You just need around 30 to be "statistically significant" lol

Are they lining up to play it with me? Assuming they own it already I think I'm all set then

I get that this isn't a math forum, but that's not true at all. 30 is the N for which the T-distribution converges to the normal distribution. It says nothing about the significance of the sample.

The volume of ratings is absolutely a part of weighting the ranking on BGG, not just the review score. 15,000 people rating a game 8.1 is worth a lot more than 100 people rating a game 9.5; it isn't that hard to spoof or pay off 100 ratings. There are some good reviews and some REALLY bad reviews out there for this game if you google it, so it is worth noting that score is from a small sample size.

127 is the number of folks who gave any rating on BGG.... the individual ratings are all over from low of 3 to high of 9....

there are currently a total of only 26 bgg users who have both rated *and* added a comment to get an idea of why they rated it and/or other thoughts on the game....

You're right, although you don't really need the underlying distribution to be T to approximate normal due to CLT. I'm only joking (with quotations) in the context of 127 ratings... Anyways I'm 95% confident this is a good board game
