I have this exact same laptop, except I paid $1K for it back when I got it a few years ago.

For $550 new, this is pretty good, even if a little old.

I have this exact laptop, if it died tomorrow I'd gladly buy another. When I got it I was looking for something light weight and that could do some light gaming - It fits the bill perfectly. I've had zero issues with it in the years I've had it. Maybe I've just been lucky, but that's been my experience.

Great little machine. Two NVME slots. Biggest complaint is how quickly the keyboard backlight shuts off (I'm a slow typist). I suspect that the GPU runs at one of the lower TDPs (it benches slower than pricier 3050ti laptops). For me FHD was a benefit because I had been using remote desktop to control FHD equipped machines.

You can get a 780M with Zen 4 at this price. That 780m iGPU will be comparable to a 1050 Ti.

Zen 4 on DDR5 will also circles around Zen 3.

Pretty sure you can go in the BIOS and set the keyboard backlight to never go off.

Yes, Zen 4 is faster than 3. But a 780M is only close to a 3050 TI in a few gaming benchmarks, in many of them it's 25%-50% slower. And that's with the 35 watt 3050 TI, (which I believe this has), not the higher wattage models. So if light gaming is a need, having the 3050 TI would be more important than the Zen 4. Now, if something CPU bound is what you're looking to do it would be the other way around, and the Zen 4 would be the choice.

This is really bad advice and wholly ignorant of all tech trends.

780m is on parity with 1050 Ti by all objective averages. They trade across games due to AMD vs Nvidia arch differences. CPU bottleneck on Zen 3 vs Zen 4 would all but guarantee that a 7840HS or 8840HS will be faster at gaming while blowing this laptop out of the water in terms of battery life.

I'm simply talking about gaming, which you brought up saying the 780M is on par with a 3050 TI. It is not - that's not opinion, it's a fact.

Yes, I saw "1050 TI", sorry gave you the benefit of the doubt that you made a mental error and simply put 1050 TI where it should have been 3050 TI. I guess I gave you too much credit, seeing as the laptop in question has a 3050 TI and nothing with this thread has to do with the 1050 TI except you arbitrarily using it for comparison.
Which would bring up another question...Why in the world (with gaming in mind, since you did actually refer to that) did you think ANY CPU combo with a 1050 TI class GPU would be a better choice than a 5800U/3050 TI to game on? That's so far off from the truth and the way bottlenecks factor into the equation it's beyond bad advice. Please don't advise others on tech, not until you learn a bit more at least.
But you'll be glad to know I'm done here. I don't want to make this into a page simply full of snark. You can have the last post, I can tell you're the type that would have to have it.
