Are gaming laptop prices going to plummet? Nvidia CEO says 5070 laptops with 4090 performance for $1300 are coming.

Even then, there are outside factors such as supply vs. demand, scalpers, and the incoming tariffs for the US. So likely the GPUs will cost more unless they're clearing out their old inventory for the Blackwell GPUs.

Will prices drop some after the full lineup is available? Sure, but slowly and steadily. It won't plummet. But prices will drop some. Not a lot, at least not for a while.

Bought one with the 4080 model open box and so far so good. Runs hot but not unbearable. The heat is less in the keyboard since it's fans are bottom up and the mother board is upside down 😅 - I can play fps on mine while traveling half decently. I've heard bad stories on open box , but yolo since I knew the 5000 series was on the way. I'm guessing 5070s will be closer to $2k laptop wise at first. 5090 for desktop are going to be $2k ( but offer 2x performance over 4090 which is nuts ....rt ON lol)

5070 laptop with every single frame gen/AI/DLSS4 thing there is turned on vs the 4090 with them all off. I have a 4090, games look like crap with all that stuff on. Way too many artifacts, screen tearing, and "white noise" when all of that is on. Without it all on it will likely perform only 10%-15% better than current 4070 laptops.

Those won't be released until March, so likely tariffs will increase prices on old and new gen and then the bots and scalpers will buy them all up as well, so won't be much incentive for current gen laptops to plummet, similar to how the 3000 series before did not.

5090 desktop will be 2k just like 4090 desktop is 1.6k, right? Right?!?

300 nits is alright but not super bright like those 500 nits Lenovo legion and asus zephrus 16".

My 18" Acer Helios is 300 nits that I use in my home office and its ok. If I open up the blinds and let too much ambient lighting in, the screen sharpness/quality suffers.

If u have a legit need right now, then get these..if not, wait out next 3-4 months and tons of 16" laptops will drop in price. New gfx cards will be ridiculous price wise but it will push older h/w prices to go down which is what I'm waiting for. Even the rtx 4060 on my Helios is excellent for 1080p gaming (blops6, elden ring, Stalke2).

I'm watching for deals on the all white legion 16" or asus zepyrus 16" with 4070 and 32GB ram....if these hit around $1300, I'll bite. Just need a more portable gaming laptop that has a bright screen while light and decent battery and good cooling for some international flights I have coming up this year.

Nvidia says that with every new release. lol

How much performance do you think you are going to get out of a laptop before it overheats, anyway?

You're not going to see a machine like this drop in price (MAYBE a little).

2025 CES articles are out now on many websites...looks like Legion is now redesigned with new line and will be available retail around March starting at $2300. Which means, the current line will likely drop in price (I always look at the 'open box' option at BB as the discounts are even more and u just call the manufacturer and they update the warranty from date of purchase. I did this with my Acer open box from BB).

Thats why u never wanna play top end dollars for new tech. It's already outdated in 8 months...lol.

I hear ya. I just wouldn't anticipate an Alienware laptop with a 70 series card to drop much more.
