Note: This was $159 from EcoFlow last month when using EcoCredits.

EcoFlow didn't like that, so in a Temu-like move they changed the terms of the EcoCredits program to exclude the River 3 Plus. For those who got their orders though, they made out nicely

I received my order. The River 3 Plus is pretty good so far. Also used the EcoCredits to get the extra battery, it docks very easily. Currently using it in the home office as backup power. I don't trust EcoFlow's products yet to be used 24/7 as UPS for my home office equipment and certainly not for my NAS boxes, have read problems for EcoFlow's UPS mode regarding battery calibration over time in the UPS mode, and the device randomly turning off the AC ports which is not good.

But all in all, it's been good so far for its intended purpose.

Got this to replace my UPS. On UPS mode, it kept klitching such that my monitor would flicker every once in a while. Thats never happened before under any situation. Returned it. They were very nice about it, albeit very slow. Had to contact them every step of the way to keep things moving along.

I have a Delta 3 Plus which has been running in UPS mode for a PC drawing a constant ~500w for the last month without issue. It communicates with my Windows 11 PC over USB-C and so knows to hibernate my PC if power goes out for more than a few minutes when I'm not there.

I figured I'd pick up the River 3 Plus for my Synology NAS for the same purpose (though the Delta 3 is also there in case I need to power my fridge, etc. in an extended outage). Unfortunately even though Ecoflow markets these as NAS-compatible, they didn't take the time to work with NUT (Network UPS Tools, open source software that Synology uses) to support their devices. So, Synology will not recognize the Ecoflow 3 Plus line as a UPS device currently.

Someone in the community has opened a github issue to add support, but unknown how long that will take. So currently the 3 Plus line only works as a dumb UPS for NUT devices.

Also my River 3 Plus had a strong smell of burning plastic as soon as I started using it. I thought it was just off-gassing at first, but it got so strong that it filled my whole house. Delta 3 Plus did not have any such smell. I decided to return the River 3 Plus as defective. It was likely a very early production unit, though concerning that QC didn't catch the issue. Fortunately the return flow was extremely smooth, even with having to return a solar panel that came free with the River 3 Plus. Took about 2 weeks between dropping the items off at Fedex and the return hitting Paypal, and they were very communicative the whole time.

Oh, and I did test the <10ms switching time for UPS on both devices, both low and high power draw scenarios, and never had any issues with my devices staying on during a failover.

Yeah too many inconsistent problems / issues that I don't want to take the chance with

I will continue to use my trusted APC 1500s for the time being and just replace the lead acid battery every 6-7 yrs. They have performed flawlessly, the switchover is 2ms, and they are compatible with all of my equipment including NAS boxes (both QNAP which i don't have anymore, and SYnology which i use entirely now)

Weird question but how do you make the battery back up thing work with synology? I tried to plug it in and when my power went out last the battery backup didn't kick in fast enough

One of the reasons I was very excited about the river 3 plus was the UPS capability, but I suppose the nice thing about getting it for so cheap a few weeks ago is even if it turns out it's got UPS teething issues the remaining feature set remains compelling, though obviously this is massively disappointing. It's already been quite useful around the house for those times when it's just awkward to fetch an extension cable.

I am also hoping to see how the thing will cope with starting up a shop vac.

I got mine with an extra battery because by the time I got around to try to order a second, the deal for the unit with 45w solar panel was sold out.

The item pictures showing how long this can power certain devices seems to be wrong…..a 3 watt route will only run for 35 hours?….that equates to a 105 Wh battery, not 286 Wh as advertised. Unless this thing is only 37% efficient….

It's sitting near me while in AC passthrough/UPS mode and I've not heard than fan at all, including when it tops the battery up to 90% a few times a day. The two mains reasons I pulled the trigger on Delta 3 Plus were <10ms UPS, and its reported no fan noise at near idle.

I preordered the River3 having no idea this was in the pipeline. Really wish i would have held out for the plus, it will check most all of the boxes i was looking for in a backup unit. I did add the 45W panel so i could charge off grid, the best ive been able to achieve was 17w input, pretty pitiful and not even reasonable to recharge the unit if i were babysitting the panel for 8 hours.

Purchased several of the EcoFlow products during the holidays including the $159 deal noted. I've noticed with another unit the random shutoff as well but mine is with 12v source, becoming a PIA. That stated, I'm a bit reluctant to trust them as well. Another thing I find crazy is the product line design across generations are inconsistent, River 3 vs River 3 plus have several things that are different and odd. Examples: R3 has "ecoflow" simply printed on the case while r3+ has it embedded in the plastic, r3 has flap that folds down to access charging ports while r3+ has slide down door. Delta 2 has charging door that flips up... so make up your mind: flip up, flip down, or sliding door. It's almost like different teams within the company design these things and they run with what the team wants rather than common configuration. How about expanded battery compatibility? So if you bought a delta 2 expanded battery... why can't you use it with the gen3? Maybe you can but quickly looking, gave me the impression you can't.

I'm not an expert but I don't think you'll ever see the full 45watts as I understand it but that's any panel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, just what I seem to recall after watching several videos. As for the 45watt panel, I had the same issue with below 20 watts but it's depends on angle and the how intense the sunlight is. After several testing sessions, I have achieved the max of like 37watts... kinda figured that about what to expect. Hopefully others with the 45watt panel will post their results as well.

I have the regular River 3. I like it a lot but like some others here, wish I knew the Plus was coming. At the small price jump, I think it's worth it.

I will say though that the River 3 has worked fine for me as a UPS for my PC. I know it has a longer switchover time but I haven't experienced any issues during a real outage or intentionally unplugging the power to the River 3.
