I'm an experienced musician, but want to get started with making music on my PC. Would this be helpful to have? What software would I need to make use of it? My only experience with creating music on my computer so far is editing audio files in audacity and doing a bit of audio manipulation in python.

I use FL Studio. Try the demo out before you buy it. I have been using it since 2005 and they have a forever license for future updates for life. You need something that handles VST2, VST3 and/or CLAP. Other than FL, Reaper is a great candidate, Cubase, Bitwig Studio, Ableton, Reason and Studio One.

They still have Audacity? Nice. That's what I used when I was in my late teens. I remember it being very user friendly with the plugins. I also remember the Fruity Loops days. Do people still use FL? That software was so difficult to use. Audacity is great, man!
FL Studio is definitely super popular. Its not going anywhere anytime soon lol. Its very easy for me to use as compared to others

this is ok if you have not much idea of what virtual instrument is. You should also check out their Total Studio Max 4 now on sale for $150. That has MIroslav Philharmoik orchestra, MODO Bass, MODO Drums, Amplitube 5 Max.... you can always start with their free CS editions, for free.

Does this include the actual software application to create / compose music as well?

I tried Sampletank back in the day but I couldn't figure it out. Same with Logic, Reason, Cubase, Fruity Loops, Acid, Ableton Live, and others. I couldn't farking figure any of it out. The front ends are all nonsense and none of it is intuitive or initially user friendly. I have severe ADHD when it comes to anything with a steep learning curve in the sense that if I can't figure it all out immediately I get overwhelmed and give up. And it pisses me off something fierce because I've had original music in my head I've wanted to record for most of my life, and I can't get past the software stage. I own half a dozen keyboards and they're all collecting dust.

SampleTank 4 Max V2 alone seems to sell for a hundred dollars or more, so this is clearly a good deal. But if this doesn't also include the means to use all these virtual instruments and lay down tracks that can be saved, I wouldn't know what to do with any of this.

No, you'd need something called a DAW (digital audio workstation). You'd load up sampletank inside of something like fl studio or ableton. I've got the adhd too, but there's tons of great tutorials to figure any of the daws out, just takes a couple hours to make a simple beat once you get past being overwhelmed by the interface

.
I feel your pain. For the longest time I used to be intimidated by the interface of all DAWs. What eventually helped me get a bit more comfortable was scratching the surface by watching random beginner videos on Youtube.

I got my first DAW pc when I was 29 back in 2008, and I didn't accomplish anything due to my frustration with the software side. It was just constant troubleshooting. I'm now 45 and nothing has changed. I desperately want just one piece of software that's user friendly that I can wrap my head around. If you have any suggestions, I'm open.

Ideally for windows 11, since that's the tower I'd use as a DAW since it's my most recent.

I'm familiar with DAW's, I have one, albeit now it's terribly outdated. I just wasn't sure if Sampletank was considered one or not as it's been so long since I've used that program, which was a much older version. It was sometime between 2009 and 2012.

Bandlab (https://www.bandlab.com/creation-...es?lang=en) is free and pretty user friendly. If you want as barebones as possible, Audacity is a really cool project. I have a particularly bad case of music software acquisition syndrome so I have a million DAWs and plugins, and between the ones I own (FL studio, ableton live, bitwig studio, studio one, cubase), I do think FL studio is the easiest for me to wrap my head around. It also has a totally free and unlocked trial with no restrictions outside of you can't open projects you've saved (until you unlock it). But you can play around as much as you want. If you don't like the vibe of FL, I've also liked bitwig a lot, but I'm not sure if it has a free trial.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tt_R39nPAs this is a good tutorial for fl studio for a complete beginner. But actually for any of these DAWs, you can just youtube "daw_name for complete beginners" and you'll get really good super introductory overviews. It's definitely hard to follow along sometimes with adhd, but trust me as someone who minored in digital audio production, unless you already have music and editing experience, it's something that will be too foreign and frustrating to learn just by plinking around and hoping something will happen. They are complex and weird and you just kind of have to choose one and learn how to do something to expand from that. And once you get a baby beat or song done, you will know enough to start asking questions on how to do what you want to do and grow organically from there. AI/GPT is also really great to ask on how to do something specific in a DAW

Could you shoot me a PM/DM? I'd like to continue this in private outside the thread. I appreciate your reply!
