8gb is soldered but has a free slot for additional ram (in the answers section)
It says that the USB C is just a USB port and can't charge or display out. Budget laptop.

I'm surprised at how important this has become for me these days. It's something I would have ignored a year or more ago, but a dim screen can literally ruin a laptop

For me, the biggest dealbreaker when it comes to a laptop is a touchscreen. Once you have a laptop with a touchscreen, you can't go back.

Following close behind is a backlit keyboard.

Backlit keyboard I can agree with. Touchscreen, I think it's a luxury that I don't have to have

I also agree, I've had many work laptops with touchscreen and it's more of an annoyance than anything else. I can do anything faster with keyboard shortcuts and a mouse than I ever could with touchscreen

For me, nothing is as fast and intuitive as using my finger to scroll down a long webpage or pinch my fingers to enlarge a photo.

I'm not saying I don't use the trackpad or keyboard, and I'm sure certain tasks are faster done without touching the screen. I'm just saying that using my fingers to get around the screen can be both a time saver and a more intuitive way of managing my workflow.

What's always confusing is picking up a non-touchscreen laptop and trying to use the screen as a touchscreen. Once you get used to working with a touchscreen, it just becomes second nature.

I often forget that my laptop is a touchscreen, one that can fully flip too. I never use it as a touch screen.

No USB-C charging is my deal breaker. I can almost be okay without USB-C video delivery... but not being able to charge from USB-C? No reason at this point to not have USB-C charging unless you want to make money selling proprietary power bricks.

Then don't use the touchscreen.

I've got two VivoBooks. The most recent being the last Staples deal on a very similar model and IMHO the screens get plenty bright.
Model I purchased. https://slickdeals.net/f/18095140-asus-vivobook-17-17-3-laptop-intel-core-5-120u-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-backlit-keyboard-f1704vap-sb52-379-99-free-shipping?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse

Really? IMO a touchscreen is a worthless feature because it means fingerprints and smudges on screen all the time. I'd rather have a clean screen, which makes a touchscreen moot.
