If this is the variable grinder this matches last March when it came around and is a great deal to keep both tools tbh or even sell the Grinder for add'l cash versus returning for $125
EDIT: variable Grinder yep yep

Because its a hack deal. People dont want to return stuff to home depot and get banned from buying stuff online or be able to return anymore

I've returned hundreds of items to HD. They've never even looked at me funny. Who is getting banned from buying there? If they didn't want items to be hacked they would simply include them as a bundle as they do with some of their sales.

You can also pick up a HO 6.0 battery as your free item. If they had had this battery instead of the 5.0 when I bought mine a few months ago, I wouldn't have had to hack it.

The only time it is tracked negatively is for returns without receipt for store credit. I used to do that constantly over buying for a job to save a trip and than returning all the surplus at the end. I never kept the receipt because I knew I'd buy more at the store so final time I got denied I had to call a number and they explained they tracked with my licence too many returns for credit (suspicious) I didn't realize so I've been diligent in keeping receipts since then. Now everything is email linked to your card it makes it super easy. You will never get in trouble for returning new un opened items. If you don't want to tho just don't pick it up and they will cancel the sale of that item after about a week

This I understand. Most big retailers track this way, which is why they ask for your ID. It's to try to cut down on theft by not giving an incentive to steal. I tried to return two Milwaukee headlamps last week that were provided by my employer, but were definitely purchased at HD. They couldn't give me store credit because each of them are over a $55 value. That makes sense, but my point was that no one is getting banned for returned hackable items.

Only banned from RETURNING ITEMS WITHOUT RECEIPT temporarily to discourage theft in their stores. They will usually tell you ok this time but next time .... I had that happen when I lost my receipts for their brand new merchandise and way past their return period. Then I got their commercial pro card and most items were extended 1-year return period. Problem solved. But never really had a problem with returns. I prolly spend at least $10-15k per year for my properties' maintenance and remodeling at HD.

It's a "hack" for one and people freak out about that, and two, it's two less demand tools. SDers aren't the hacksaw and grind types for the most part. They're more of the compact inflators and latest LED light dainty clean fingernail types. All you have to do is look at the impact wrench threads and the "will this take off my lugnuts" questions. Now that being said, I do own plenty of Milwaukee lights, so I'm a little dainty myself. No shame.

This is not true, all returns are tracked except maybe cash. They will deny returns using that third party you mentioned, TRE (The Retail Equation). Also, if this happens to you, don't bother calling them because they do not have the ability to reverse it. They make it seem like calling them is beneficial but it's just aggravating. I had a $4k+ door delivered that was damaged and so I brought it back to the store and it was denied.

Had to argue for a week before finally getting a district manager to help out. They have to call TRE and get approval to allow the return with some special code.

fark TRE and companies that use it. Door was purchased on my HD credit card fyi.

that's a great deal, and even better if you sell the battery on marketplace, since most likely you already have a bunch

I have this and it's one of my more regrettable purchases. I have a ton of milwaukee stuff. I use a good blade and 5.0HO battery. It feels weak and the vibration is pretty bad. I might just be spoiled because I also have the full size M18 sawzall. I've been using it for cutting small limbs, roots, and vines. Feels like it often struggles way more than it should and the vibration in your hands can be pretty bad.
