The last of the cheap PCs for a few years. Slick Deals are going to be slim pickings with all these tariffs.
Tell me you don't think critically without telling me you don't think critically
Oculink port makes this interesting.

If I wanted to use the oculink, how much would the dock and PSU and a decent graphics card cost?

Picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago (the 32 GB, 512 GB one). Runs quiet and can handle the basics just fine. The dual USB-C was the big selling point for me at this price point to replace my dinosaur desktop.

Just get this thing, a psu, and the GPU of your choice.

https://www.amazon.com/MINISFORUM...7818&psc=1

I used a Thunderbolt eGPU with my legion go and a 4070 to super for a long time. It did ok, but I'm pretty sure it limited the power of the card due to bandwidth. Oculink is supposed to be faster.

Exactly like that. You'd need this minipc, that dock, and a PSU with the GPU. It mostly makes sense if you're spaced constrained or just have old parts handy that you didn't sell off.

Would rather see 32gb ram and 256gb ssd (or no ssd)as most would upgrade the ssd to their liking

680m isn't terrible on board graphics honestly. Little faster than a Steamdeck. Throw on SteamOS/Bazzite and you got yourself a stew going.

Is the 7840hs with the 780m a decent upgrade also?

Looking for something to emulate GameCube or Switch games at high levels.

I'd go with the 780m if you want to do switch. It's a decent step up

Thinking about building out a home lab with Proxmox, Home Assistant, pi hole, Minecraft server for the kids. After increasing the ram, would this be a good solution?

My LG Gram with a 13th gen i7 does great with citron-emu on switch games. I have a minisforum miniPC with a 6900HX (680M) that also does great, even at 4k. Remember, emulation is far more CPU bound than GPU.

this + more ram could make it cool, though no longer cost effective.
