Get a 24GB 256GB from the edu store and buy a third party 2TB drive for $250.
Best non combative "or not Apple" reply I've seen on Slickdeals.
The base model is a better deal, esp with the edu discount.

Or get a laptop with a 4060 and 32gb ram with an i7 or ryzen 7. Continuously on sale for this range. Or an i9 with a 4070 32gb ram for about $1200. Dell just had a laptop specs as such with a 240hz screen 16". Put my mini to shame so I sold it. I know it's not apples to apples. Not bashing anything just saying for anybody who is in the market and not 100% mac specific. Nice deal for product specific but many options right now with new graphics cards out. Deals to be had so do your homework for your needs. Mac is solid as they come but very proprietary on upgrades if even possible. Have a great day everyone!!!

I just grabbed a 256gb ssd / 24gb ram from Apple edu for $740. I had gotten a base model to mess around with and felt like the RAM upgrade would be helpful long term for AI so I returned/upgraded

is this really the same though?

I'm a Mac novice, so this is genuine question. Won't things by default want to install and use the internal storage?

I have my music and photo library on an external for my iMac - it super simple to point it there vs in internal drive

With that said I still have used 350 of my 512 gb internal so I think 256 is too small

This is the way. BUT all things considered if people can't open up a mac mini to upgrade the storage this is good deal for them.

$699 edu priced 24g/256gb model and I spent $130 for 1TB storage card.

If I had this price 2.5 months ago, I would have jumped on it but Amazon keeps playing games with the pricing.

I've been using the Mini with 16gb ram and 500 gb drive for 1.5 months. I couldn't justify $200 for just 8 gb of ram. So far it has performed fine in light games and design work. I think the ram over storage argument is overrated. I have plenty of external storage drives but I don't like to run them all the time because of extra power and heat generated.

I plan on using the M4 mini for about 3 years until the next upgrade because tech ages really fast. There really is no need to max out a computer when next year's base model will match the performance at a fraction of the cost.

I also want to note that the M4 chips are CRAZY energy efficient. With constantly increasing energy prices, it will make a difference in your electric bill. Never going back to Intel power suckers again!
