Anyone have experience with open-box excellent? Are these basically new or am I going to run into some issues?

In my experience, open box excellent is usually brand new, often with a damaged box.

I got Open-Box FAIR, which was brand new, with no sign of use.
Super happy with it and I would highly recommend it!

I bought an open Box excellent, and it came looking brand new, in the original box.

After a clean install, this laptop is fantastic. Great battery life, and supports Dolby Vision through Netflix.

No personal experience with this, but in the previous threads for the same deal, a number of users raised that Asus doesn't honor the one-year warranty advertised by Best Buy on open-box items.

When I have bought open box excellent from Best Buy, it is usually new, but sometimes has been locked display model.

I think things are very much random; in my case, I've tried the openbox excellent twice; both of them came in with a generic bestbuy box (i.e., no original box), no charger, with visible scratches on machines. But you can anyway return the item if the condition is not ideal so you can definitely try biting the bullet

To get a "fair" that is excellent is LUCK. Typically, "fair" will not be like new at all. It may be missing parts, no in original box, scuffs, scratches, etc. That is what "fair" is defined as. Like I said, you may get lucky and some inept BB employee marks a perfect laptop as fair because of a smudge on the screen, but I would only buy "fair" if I am going to the store to pick it up so I can see it first.

People who buy "excellent" will typically get a like-new device in the original packaging. That's the definition of "excellent". Some UNLUCKY people (like the other person who responded) will get something other than like-new. If it's missing parts or not in original box, it should NEVER be marked "excellent" and I would refuse it at pickup.

That said, personally I would not consider a white laptop. It will get dirty and dingy over the years. It might look nice at first, but will need lots of cleaning.

When you say "clean install", you mean recovery through the factory installed Windows or from a non-Lenovo image (W11 installer on a thumb drive)?

Completely agree with Hat-Trick. I've bought several open-boxes Windows/Chromebook since last summer at all three conditions; I still think the process is YMMV. In all cases, I have not seen batteries having more than 10 cycles.

no laptop speakers are great, i suppose, but the sound coming out of these is 10x worse than normal and part of the reason i returned mine. just couldn't hack trying to watch a one minute youtube vid and having my ears drip blood or some such. yes, i know, bluetooth or headphones but sometimes you don't want to bother.
