Is this suitable to disregard everything included and use to grow hot chilis instead?

Oh absolutely. I buy seeds from my local shop and grow the herbs and green leafy stuff in my grow machine

the LEDs on these are underpowered. I do not think you'll have much success growing anything that fruits (like a pepper plant). Herbs and leafy greens are about all these can grow without substantial supplemental light (either artificial or natural)

These things are a lot smaller than the pictures would lead you to believe. A single chilli plant would get too big for this thing. I bought one of these a few years ago to grow herbs like basil and sage during the winter. My basil ended up choking off the other 2 plants and got so big the planter would tip over if I looked at it wrong.

Hot chilis also really like warm weather.
Our garden is regularly in 90-105F weather, and the hot peppers and tomatoes love it.

A hydroponic kit that doesn't tell you anything about water capicity or LED wattage is suspicious at best. This would be great if you want to give a young child a toy with learning experience, but expecting to actually grow anything useful is a stretch.

It says the light raises to 13 inches, which means you're limited to ~11 plant. You can probably grow some basil if you aggressively trim it. Oregeno or thyme may work as well, but puttinc 3 plants in it wouldn't work with how little the basin is if you let them grow for more than 2 months.. If you really want to just try hydroponics I guess it would be an inconsiquential purchase, but if you want to actually grow stuff to use there are plenty of more viable options on Amazon in the 40-60 price range.

Good info. At the moment I feel cornered in a cave. Can you give One link to a 40 or $60 one that's good?

Wait for aerogarden when it is on sale . The other knockoff brand are ether under power LED or do not have Fluorescent bulb which provide heat . I have both side-by-side to compare . Aerogarden are 2x quicker grow than knockoff brand

I have grown cherry tomatoes and jalapenos using this machine.

- LED lights are not very strong. I think under 8 watts.
- The water reservoir is small. I think half a gallon.
- Several people have problems with the included plant food.
- Several people have problems getting the seeds started some saying that the included sponges are too dense.
- The pods/net pots that are included seem to be an irregular size so getting replacements might be difficult. Though you could either print your own with a 3d printer or use something like a pool noodle.

These should work fine for small herbs and lettuce. I bought three myself since I think it's a great value. I think this would be a great option for something like mint, oregano, lemon balm, thyme, or anything that has roots that can overcrowd other plants.
Look into other plant food though. I use General Hydroponics for my Aerogarden which works great. There are also some other options too.

Does anyone know anything about the $9 rebate?
