These aren't really ideal for hand tools like a drill but for the mowers, the cordless shop vacs, the cordless miter saws, table saw, fans, power inverters, etc. Those sorts of tools, this size battery is useful for.
The shop vacs. Recip saw. Table saw. Compound sliding mitre saw. Shop fan. I mean... if you dont know what this would be beneficial for, chances are that you don't need it.

i was just looking to buy these yesterday wishing they were on sale.. Perfect timing. They are the only batteries that run my dysons flawlessly (with ryobi adapter).
The "aftermarket" 12ah ryboi batteries cant even run the dysons for a few seconds .

Well yeah..besides the knockoff batteries being a massive fire hazard, you're only getting maybe 60% of claimed capacity.

And I really doubt the new 8.0ah OEM batteries are the ONLY batteries that work with the adapter.

I use a 16" 18V push mower for the spots too hard to get with the zero turn before I wrap up with a Milwaukee string trimmer. The tiny mower is useful for limiting my time carrying the trimmer but it runs through my 4AH batteries quickly — if this was half price for one I'd buy it in a heartbeat but I don't need 2.

i have a few oem 6.0's that i can get one room vacuumed before it goes dead.. .. the 4.0's only a few seconds, some of the older 4.0's wont even allow it to turn on..

Thats the same outcome with 2 dyson v10's- I use one for my carpet and one for the terrazzo. so , for "me" 8.0 or higher is the only thing "that works"

So these weigh more than the tool they're being attached to?

That would depend on which tool you're attaching it to. The 10 inch mitre saw is over 30 pounds.

I've tried the small batteries with the adapter on the Dyson and they don't work. Does the adapter only work on big batteries or something?

Great for bigger tools or even emergencies. I would love to have a couple of these for hurricane season just to run inverters and stuff. We ran our wi-fi and powered our phone/tablets off Ryobi batteries during the last storm.

yes, .. well my experience is , I use 2 dyson v10's both with the ryobi adapters..
I cannot get but a few seconds out of the 4.0ah batteries before it cuts off.. The 6.0ah battery will get maybe 5 minutes / one room of continuous power. The 8.0ah battery will give me 15/ 20 minutes of continuous power for a total of 3 rooms ... It should be noted i have several 12ah offbrand ryobi batteries (purchased at a fraction of the price) and they run my drills and lights perfectly , but will not even power on my dysons.
