Weize US is having a sale on highly rated Platinum Series AGM automotive batteries. Use code CART at checkout to get prices in thread title (additional 5% off sale prices). Shipping is free on all orders and sales tax is included in sale prices, so that's final price with shipping. Packaging on these is widely reported to be excellent for protection during shipping transport. I'm currently right at 2 years in service with the Weize Platinum 48/H6 AGM and it's been flawless.

Compare to next best local price of ~$180 at Walmart for Everstart AGM. Smaller sizes offer more savings by comparison.

If you're wondering what size your car/truck needs, your old battery is usually marked with BCI or Group size on the top or front side of the battery.

From the Weize site:
Weize Platinum AGM batteries, like other AGM batteries, are designed for vehicles with start-stop technology, offering enhanced cranking power and longer lifespan compared to standard flooded batteries, but are generally more expensive.

I wondered what the difference between the Platinum and regular AGM batteries.

How long would these last if I kept it on standby? I was having issues with my Sonata's AGM battery but I managed to revive it after charging it for 48 hours. At this price, I kinda was thinking of keeping it for when my original one packs up.

Also any suggestions on what to do with the old batteries since it looks like Weize doesn't want those back?

Some of the start/stop information out there is just marketing. AGMs are generally preferable in start/stop applications, and any quality AGM will likely do the job just fine. Start/stop operation is generally linked to shorter battery life due to higher cranking cycle counts on vehicles that kill the engine at red lights, etc. This makes for a significantly higher workload on the battery.

Walmart will likely take your old battery for free, and some parts houses will give you a $5-$10 store credit if you bring it to them.

AGM life is typically 4-6 years. I've seen them go longer when kept near full charge at all times. in storage, a cheap 12V charger with float function, combined with an AC mechanical dial timer set to run for an hour or so a day, will keep your stored battery hot and fully topped off without "cooking" it.

Edit: I should add that storing a new battery for extended periods prior to use is generally not advisable, as it ages regardless of whether it's being used.

Thank you! I do have a 1 amp battery charger/maintainer I can use. Might as well pick one up while it's on sale. Appreciate you posting.

Happy to save you a few $$. It's a good time to buy things like this right now; there's no telling what tariffs will do to pricing in the coming months but it doesn't look good.

Just wanted to add that putting a timer on a smart-ish battery maintainer is not a great idea, because it will probably trigger it to reset and take the battery to a full charge cut-off voltage every day. This will tend to dry out an AGM (or flooded cell) and significantly shorten its life. The timer idea is great for an old school cheapo maintainer with no float mode.

Yes, I specifically said charger with float and not maintainer. I'm not on board with 24/7 maintainers; I like the rest period between regular top-off cycles. I'd rather trust a timer where I have full control over the process, rather than a 24/7 maintainer that will do what it wants and possibly cook my battery over time with excessive charging. My occasional use batteries, both flooded and AGM, last for many years with this treatment.

As far as chargers go, the ones with zero buttons or switches are the ones I use because they power up and down well without supervision. The Everstart 1 Amp linked below is great for the task; it has maintainer in the title but it's a basic charger with float. Works great with a timer on batteries 35AH and smaller. Anything larger I'd recommend a 2 amp.

For the record, I want to reach full charge cutoff voltage daily for a short period to prevent sulfation. Your car's alternator does that every day without drying out the battery.

If you lose once on a suspect battery, it's going to cost you a lot more than just replacing it.

That being said, the weather is getting warmer. A lot of times those suspect batteries work just fine until the next fall.

If you have an old car, they do not carry group size 78, or the alternate combo of 78/34.
Think 78 Cadillac/Chevrolet era.

Last month I bought group size 35 and 47. Currently they are each $7 cheaper right now

Any battery that I've had to revive due to deep discharge or other issues is not one I want to depend on daily. On a mower etc. I may stretch it out to failure with little consequence. I tend to take better care of my batteries than most, but when they show any signs of weakness it's time to keep an eye out for a replacement at a good deal. Life's too short to get stranded at work, the shooting range in the middle of nowhere, or in another town where you have no one to call for assistance. Like you said, better an early replacement than the costs associated with an inconvenient failure.

My original battery died due to me installing a new dashcam and not setting the proper voltage on when it should turn itself off (ended up draining my battery to 11.8v).

After charging it for 2 days and reconfiguring the dashcam to cut off at a higher voltage I've been fine.

But I do agree, if that wasn't my issue and my battery was going out, I would straight up swap it right now to prevent future issues.

Generally the newer the battery, the better it will stand up to deep discharge below 12 volts. There is always an associated shortening of life with a cranking battery though. AGMs tend to give more warning when they're about to fail, with slower cranking instead of a sudden refusal to turn the starter. If you can get another year or 2 out of your current battery then more power to you. Everyone's risk tolerance is different with such things.
