Linux. I pulled the NVMe drive from this box and installed it to an external NVMe USB enclosure, and burned HAOS to it using Balena Etcher in Windows on my laptop. Reinstalled the NVMe drive in the GMKTec box and booted it up, found the DHCP IP address on my router, and then used the Web UI to finish configuration.
Great dedicated Home Assistant box.

Do you have HA running on Windows 11 or Linux?

Bought this during the last sale to run as a headless Plex server. Works great so far.

It could be I think but it's single channel ddr4 and has a weak gpu, so you'd be very limited.

Bought an upgraded version (16g Ram / 512gb nvme)of this a few months ago. Works great as a personal server, within reason. Couple notes, it does have 2 nvme slots one being 2280 (standard), the other is a odd keyed 2242. Also only one ram slot.

I bought one of these with the intent to install Linux on it from the start. I tried a couple of lightweight distros. The best solution for me was Bodhi Linux cuz it has the WiFi drivers loaded by default and you don't have to try and compile them yourself.

For whatever reason they did this, but I can't boot this completely headless. It won't boot without being connected to a monitor. I got a HDMI dummy plug coming today so it should work with that.

From what I've discovered not one of these cheap mini PC manufacturers provide legit Win 11 Pro licenses, they're abusing a volume licensing program to cheap out on keys which essentially means these aren't legitimately licensed. Some of them are pre-installing malware that persists on recovery partitions (though I've seen no direct reports that GMKTec is doing this).

I know home users don't care and most people are just installing other OS's or hypervisors on them anyway, but it's something to note if you were planning to use this in a business setting that could eventually get audited by the BSA.

I purchased one of these from their website directly and it was fulfilled by Amazon.
I sent a question to their customer service email and never got a response. Maybe it was one-off, but in the last thread for these someone noted issues with warranty claims too.

Not one? Can you please present your evidence to the jury?

Not too surprising. Given the price-point, I've purchased a couple (multiple brands) with the mindset of them being somewhat as-is and disposable. Having said that, they've worked great as little servers for me. One is this brand and the other is a Beelink.

I'm thinking of using this to upgrade my Legends Ultimate Arcade. Anyone try Batocera with this thing? Goal would be through Dreamcast era emulation. Would I be better off with an AMD APU version?

Also, anyone give Proxmox on one of these a go? I've been running HomeAssistant on a RPi for several years now, and while while that's been fine, I do want to move to something faster. I also have some other small uses like a MPD/media server, etc. hence the desire for something like Proxmox over just Hassio.

I can't back up what they said about licenses for every manufacturer but the malware thing was in the AceMagic (aka acemagician/Kamrui/other brands) miniPCs a year ago.

For me it's showing another "brand promotion" coupon worth 10% in addition to the $50 mentioned here.

However, their G5, which has an N97 processor, comes with 12GB for $144 (versus 8GB for this N150) minus a 10% coupon and another 5% coupon (in lieu of the $50 in this N150 deal). The G5 also does Turbo up to 3.6 vs 3.4 for the N150 (negligible) and uses DDR5 (not negligible). On the downside, the G5 does have one less USB port and is 1G vs 2.5G for Ethernet. I personally think the N97 is the way to go due to the 50% more RAM for an extra $14-ish.
