Its good. Its definitely the weakest of the modern series, but like in comparing ROTJ to ESB. Depending on who you ask, I have friends that liked 3 more than 5.
The time sink for $25 is hard to beat as well. Aside from sim games with no real end RPGs are the way to go for dollar to hour value. At around 30 hours in the game I only have the first part of the second block of the "maze" (no spoilers) opened... and I believe there are four blocks. It's a lot!
Persona 3 would have been the entry point for most. The earlier ones didn't initially leave Japan

Persona 3 -> FES or Portable
Persona 4 -> Golden
Catherine -> Full Body
Persona 5 -> Royal
Persona 3R -> ???
Just wait until they release a "complete" version of it. Who knows, it might even include FeMC by then since there was great demand for it.

They already released the Answer DLC so it's not impossible...
It was my first Persona game and I'm perhaps in the minority when I say that it remains my favorite in the series. But yeah like others have said they are all standalone games like Final Fantasy
