Amazing to see some are nitpicking a $450 laptop with lunar lake CPU, OLED screen, good speakers, and good build. I bought two, and thinking another one. Only obvious issue is the fingerprint magnet case.

RAM is not upgradeable. Otherwise a great deal if 16gb works for you

It's actually not 16gb. The powerful GPU would take at least 4gb for itself, which drives the laptop down to 8-12gb.

I can FEEL it. It's absolutely slower.
i bought this too.. i couldn't pinpoint it but.. is that what i am feeling?! something feels off, but i am chalking it up to first boot updates and all. unsure how it will feel another week

Maybe what feels off is the 60hz if you're used to modern devices at 120hz plus

Task manager will tell you have much memory the GPU is taking. For example here on my old Surface Book v1 GPU its only taking 0.6GB

When you open the screen while the machine is off, if you move your head up and down while staring at your reflection, you can tell the display is not 100% straight/flush, feels wavy like those funny mirrors that your head grows and shrinks as you move around. That being said, I wonder if they have an imperfect display situation and staring at it while on, you won't notice but your eyes will and give you fatigue faster, since maybe the OLEDs are shooting in random directions. Thoughts??

after research, found this article from the ASUS support area explaining this phenomenon as "normal" - https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1051987/

I have a question guys. Is the new m4 MacBook Air 13" 16 gb and 256gb with discount at $900 worth it over this Vivobook s14?
With taxes, we're talking about a $500 difference.
I'm really torn. That one is more powerful, durable, better resale values, but is it worth the extra $500? I really like this vivobook's price and specs.

You can choose how much ram to allocate to the iGPU, up to 8gb.

How can one do this?

My thoughts are -- if you can't notice it while using it, then don't stare at it while it's off moving your head around!

Regardless, there are other ASUS models (their Snapdragon X model for one) that also has that "plastic film" on the display. I have one. TBH, you never notice it while using it. I have another ASUS laptop with OLED that does not have that display. Maybe it's just a less expensive panel? The visual quality (stunning OLED colors, blacks, etc.) do not seem to be any less.

Stop buying laptops with 16GB soldered ram.
16GB is entry level with today's processors, 32GB should be considered a standard upgrade nowadays. Especially with intel arc graphics cards where it's stealing ram for the GPU.

My frustration is if these manufacturers are going to cripple their pcs like this, at least make them upgradable.
32GB would be nice, but with many models of Lunar Lake laptops, that 16GB difference costs $500. Hard to recommend the 32GB model at that price.

I would say it's worth it because everything besides the screen is much better with the Macbook, especially the battery life. You can get probably two of these laptops for the same price as the Macbook, but the Macbook would last you twice as long (or longer). My last Macbook from 2015 lasted me 10 years before I got a new one. The build quality and the user experience would be the biggest difference IMO.

The ram is part of the CPU die in Lunar Lake. It's not a manufacturer-level "let's throw more ram into this model over here" kind of thing anymore with these.
