FWIW I've personally never had much luck with the $100 all in ones. They'd last a 1-2 years (at best) and all of their other functions were pretty poorly implemented or barely worked. I'd rather a slightly better printer, with auto duplexing, and decent features that might last me a decade of light use.

Brother mfc-l2717dw looks like it's good for my use case but apparently doesn't exist? Or the
MFC-L2900DW for fifty bucks more.
Really hope that's the case. I'm trying to find tangible facts on this before proceeding. Right to repair law in California makes this illegal
